LEGO by way of their LEGO Ideas program, announced today that they will bring a fan-created Sonic the Hedgehog LEGO set to the masses as a real product. The design was created by a 24-year old Viv Grannell from the UK . She created her design as a submission to the LEGO Ideas platform, which is a "LEGO initiative that takes new ideas that have been imagined and voted for by fans and turns them into reality."

The design for this Sonic set is specifically focused on 2017's Sonic Mania, which was a really good game. Seriously, you should play it if you haven't yet and you consider yourself a Sonic fan. It's superb.

The set will feature iconic characters and environments from the game's Green Hill Zone level. Once submitted, the set earned the needed 10,000 votes from LEGO fans in order to make it a real product. It now moves on to the product development phase within LEGO. Once finalized, it will be made available worldwide for purchase.

Talking about the winning idea, Viv Grannell said; “I’ve been invested in the world of Sonic for almost my entire life, and it’s such a perfect fit for the LEGO system that I spent about a year rallying support for it to happen. Having 10,000 people back my design was overwhelming enough, even with friends and family behind me, but having it be selected for further development was the most exciting secret I have ever had to keep!”
Sonic the Hedgehog celebrates his 30th anniversary this June.
