The latest entry in the "castle sim series," Stronghold: Warlords, will be released on September 29, 2020. This release date is roughly 20 years after development first started on the original Stronghold game. This release date comes alongside a new co-op mode that was revealed this week during IGN's Summer of Gaming event.
The launch of the game will include full multiplayer functionality, including support for A.I. opponents. There will be a unique co-op mode that allows two players to work together with building, defending, and besieging from the same castle.
“Multiplayer will include the ability to play in teams with friends and against the AI, but also the option to control a single castle cooperatively†said Nick Tannahill, Marketing Director at Firefly Studios. “For instance, in co-op one player could handle the economy from the start while the other builds up an army. Then later during a siege that player could control defensive units like Fire Lancers and Archers, while the other triggers castle traps and puts out fires.â€
September 29th is when the game releases around the world through Steam. It will launch with full Steam Workshop support, meaning custom content will be fully supported from the beginning.
