This will be an experimental title exploring new ways of storytelling.
Project: MARA

Ninja Theory, the Microsoft owned studio known for games like Hellblade: Senua's Sacrifice and Heavenly Sword just announced a new title. This new game, currently entitled Project: Mara, will explore new ways to tell a story. This game is being developed at the same time that the studio is also working on Senua's Saga: Hellblade II for the next-generation Xbox.

Ninja Theory says that Project: Mara will be "a real-world and grounded representation of mental terror." Much like the in-depth research they conducted for Hellblade, it looks like Ninja Theory will once again use real, first-hand accounts, research, and experience as the basis for this project. In fact, Ninja Theory explicitly says that their aim is to "recreate the horrors of the mind as accurate and realistically as possible."

If this pans out for the studio, they hope that it will eventually become a new way to tell stories.

Project: Mara is just one of four separate projects that Ninja Theory has been working on since their acquisition by Microsoft in 2018. The other projects include the already mentioned Senua's Saga: Hellblade II, their upcoming multiplayer brawler Bleeding Edge, and an "innovative R&D project" called The Insight Project.

The first teaser for Project: Mara is below along with the first episode of "The Dreadnaught Diaries." This is a new series that Ninja Theory will put out periodically that will allow fans to get some additional insight on the current development of the studio's upcoming projects.
