Borderlands 3

Epic's Tim Sweeney says that there will be no pre-loads for Borderlands 3 on the PC through the Epic Games Store. If you have purchased the game, you will need to wait until the game is released before you can even download it. Those on the Xbox One and PlayStation 4 will not have this problem.

Those of you who have somewhat decent Internet connections probably won't have to worry about waiting for too long, provided the download servers hold up. Those of you who typically need a couple of days to a week to download a modern game, I wish you all the best.

That odd thing here is that the Epic Games Store roadmap says that pre-loading was a "recently shipped feature." Alright, so what's the deal? Is it available or is it not?

Ah, so "it's complicated" then? They don't know if their system is up to the demands of a game like Borderlands. This excuse doesn't really hold much water when you think about it. If you were really worried about meeting the demands for a big game release, wouldn't you want to spread the downloads and the server hit out for a longer stretch of time? As it is, you're now going to have everyone that wants the game (at its first release) on PC hammering your servers all at once all at the same time to try to get the content they couldn't download ahead of time.

That's some real galaxy brain thinking there.

It's not like pre-loads are a new thing for the gaming industry. Half-Life 2 had a pre-load back on Steam in 2004. Sure, it wasn't exactly the smoothest release, but that was fifteen years ago. Every modern console has had pre-loading for literally years now. This is absolutely pathetic from Sweeney, Epic, and the Epic Games Store.
