Will depart after QuakeCon.
Tim Willits

Industry veteran, Tim Willits, announced that he is leaving id Software after spending 24 years with the studio. Willits made this announcement via Twitter, saying that he will part ways from id Software after the conclusion of this year's QuakeCon in July.

According to statements made by Willits, he is not retiring from the industry. However, we won't be told about his plans for the future until after QuakeCon, which conclude son July 28.

Willits had joined id Software in 1995 as a designer. Some of his credits while at id Software include Quake, Quake 2, Quake 3: Arena, Doom 3, Rage, the 2016 Doom reboot, and Rage 2.

"After 24 years, I’ve decided to leave id Software after QuakeCon. I’ve been extremely lucky to work with the best people in the industry on truly amazing games. QuakeCon has been an unbelievable part of my journey and I look forward to seeing everyone at the Gaylord Texan.

"All of the games currently in development are in very good hands, my departure will not affect any planned releases. id Software is packed full of amazing talent that will continue to develop (long into the future) some of the best shooters in the world.

"After QuakeCon I will announce my future plans, where I am going, and what new exciting things I am doing. Stay tuned."
