Today, the World in Conflict team has released the final version of the user made map Virginia and it is available for download either through Massgate or online. Here is a brief release on Massgate:
The whole World in Conflict Team is very proud to announce the official release of the fan-made map Virginia, by EvilViking!

With stunning visual detail, Virginia is the first fan-made map to make it to an official release. This new Domination map can be downloaded by logging in to Massgate.

It is also available as a free download in the Download section. Place it in your My Documents\World in Conflict\Downloaded\maps folder. Please note that if you have played the beta version of Virginia, you need to delete it from your maps folder before downloading this latest version.

Connected to this release, Wicbase has also put up an interview with the map's creator, EvilViking. Take a look:
I've been making maps for RTS games for a very long time (since I was probably 11 or 12), so when WiC's map editing tools came out, I knew I had to give it a shot. Initially, "Virginia" was just a tech demo for me - I wanted to see how far I could push the editing tools as well as the game engine.

New Fan-Made Map "Virginia" To be Released

CaptainKirk | Comments: 7

The World in Conflict team has just handed down news of a very popular unranked map getting released for play on ranked servers. Take a look:
The whole World in Conflict Team is very proud to announce the upcoming release of the fan-made map Virginia, by EvilViking!

Virginia has already made quite a presence on unranked servers, and because of its gameplay qualities, we’ve decided to make an official release for ranked servers.

EvilViking has certainly put a lot of effort into transferring his home state into World in Conflict. With great support for 8v8 matches, this Domination map is sure to become a popular choice amongst ranked players around the world.

With stunning visual detail, Virginia is the first fan-made map to make it to an official release, but the whole WiC team is of course eagerly waiting new contenders to follow its course!

World in Conflict: Soviet Assault First Look

[MyIS]Spawndemon | Comments: 12

IGN has posted up a brand new article today taking a first look at this highly anticipated "expansion" pack to World in Conflict, Soviet Assault. Check it out below:
The most important thing to note is Soviet Assault is not an expansion pack for the PC. According to Jansen, it will be more like a downloadable mission pack that will be offered at a lower price than a standard expansion pack. After World in Conflict shipped, Massive heard a lot of feedback from gamers complaining that it had too much of a pro-US perspective, or that it lacked a Soviet campaign. So the designers went to work creating a Red Army plot, missions, and characters. But these missions aren't designed to support a stand-alone campaign. Instead, they're being interwoven with the existing World in Conflict campaign. If you buy Soviet Assault, you'll replay the World in Conflict campaign with the new Red Army missions integrated into it. Those missions will offer another point of view at different parts in the story. It's sort of like how Call of Duty 4's narrative alternated between central characters.

Since Massive is currently working on Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 versions of the game, console gamers will now get this expanded campaign in the box when those versions ship. This expanded campaign is basically the new official World in Conflict campaign.

Also, Jansen wanted to make clear that Soviet Assault will be completely unnecessary if you just want to play the game online. All multiplayer maps and features are made available for free to all World in Conflict customers, regardless of whether they buy Soviet Assault or not. Massive doesn't want to segregate its online player base into two. But if you really liked the single-player World in Conflict experience and you want more, then you should definitely buy Soviet Assault.
