Because it makes them feel betterOriginally Posted by TMUNNY
. The reality is, every computer is affected, no matter the specifications. Add to that, the 1.12 patch hosed the performance in BF2 also. Hopefully EA will go away and allow Dice to make BF2 & SF the quality products they were supposed to be.
Get new drivers for your Graphic and Soundcard, also make sure you have the latest drivers for all of your harware ex. Chipset.
Make sure you do regular maintenance on your computer. For example Defrag your harddrive, clean out the registry with a register cleaner, be sure to run ad-aware to remove any spyware, run a anti virus program etc. The list goes on.
If you want to know more about your computer and what you need to do to keep it running smooth and troublefree. Checkout the "Tweaking Companion" over at TweakGuides.com
That 166 pages long guide cover most if not all areas of your computer and what you can do to make it preform like it was new. It also focuses on freeware so money doesent need to be an issue.
Hope you will be able to play soon

As well as with them unless you drop some graphics options and resolution.... this game was obviously rushed and we are paying for it.Originally Posted by QuakerOatz

Thanks to everyone who posted help. I am going to update my sound and video drivers now. I always defrag and spycheck my computer, so I'll report back after the driver updates.
I would just suggest make sure all settings are set to low. I know you said you tried that.
I was at medium and had to go to low - but I bumped view distance to 100% - only thing that I changed.
Seems to be ok
2.8ghz
2g ram
nvidia 6800
So I updated my drivers, reinstalled 1.12 switched up the directory nodes, reinstalled BF2 and SF.....lowered my settings, switched my sound card from hardware to software and vice versa....I have done everything.
I am going out today to buy Call of Duty 2.
Adjust your PCI latency down to 64, or even 32, if it's not there already. Use this little tool to do so: http://downloads.guru3d.com/download.php?det=951
In the program, change the value of the entry that has the following values: "bus 001, device 0, function 0" by right clicking the entry, going to "change settings" and typing into the box "64" (or 32, if you're feeling agressive). Then go to "settings -> apply" then "settings -> apply on startup"
Please let me know if this helped at all, or if you've already tried this.
Oh yeah, and you did correctly uninstall the old video drivers before installing the new ones, right?
i tried to download that program, but what does it open with? it's an unreadable file
Strange. Maybe your download got chopped part way through. Try downloading again, or from a different mirror.
