Learn how to fly with the rear cam, I am an ace pilot helo or jet. I have had matches where there were two jets after the whole map and could not shoot me down simply because I can fly almost the whole time looking backwards. You must really know the map inside out. Of course while flying looking backwards your controls are the opposite. But you will adapt over time.
Its awsome because every time they shoot missiles you can avoid them. And when you lose them you can see where they went and gain the initiative.

also search google for fighter pilot techniques and study them.
Before you fly you should spend about 1 hour studying the techniques. And I recomend buying some toy jets and practice the menuvers infront of your eyes with your hands. I may sound hardcore but back in the day of dc you had to be a good pilot or your base would be raped all map long by ace pilots.
Your best bet is to learn the exact required height to do a dive DOWN not upwards, then when you pull into the dive even the best pilot will be a split second behind you in matching your movement if he decides to follow you.... resulting in a large crater on the ground and you feeling happy that he's cursing his silly mistakeOriginally Posted by motorboatJones

Straight after this all happens, head off to the enemy airfield (again have precise timing to arrive in 15-20 seconds from the "accident") and strafe the hanger area with the vulcan cannon, 9 times out of ten you will kill him again and really annoy him as he will almost always spawn for the plane again but it takes twice as long as him to respawn
This is the best defense i have found against pilots yopu cant shake and are slowly chaining you down while you try and escape. the more you try and "twist and turn" the more openings he gets for using the cannon as you cross his crosshair. I'm not a bad pilot (by no means very good) and thats how i usualy die as well, you get very "focused" on the chase and its fairly easy to make the mistake of following them down, epecially if they make a couple good attempts to flee beforehand so i know hes not just suiciding.
P.S. whoever said to find a friendly to take a hit for you, thats so harsh, stay as far from giving the enemy easy kills as possible, any half decent pilot is always waiting for 2 enemys on screen, as the second one wont even get a lock-on tone if the target flares, giving him no chance to deploy counter-measures.
If anything, if the enemy is using missiles rather then guns, is to wait for him to fire and then cross the path of an enemy (helicopters are best) as close as you can, often it will re-aquire the lock-on with his teammates, that is of course the best defense against as he will gets kicks becuase of punish monkeys :nerr: (j/k)
I don't know how you people can tell where enemy helos are while flying at 900 mph with some 14 year old pumped up on soda tailing you. I can barely see what's going on half the time at those speeds. I can't tell you how many times I have pulled up to avoid another pilot and then gotten totally disoriented and gone off the map where I eventually get game killed for being out of bounds.
I mostly play Oman Gulf, btw.
On the 32 player map there's almost no room to manuever. It's really stupid. Even if you slow down to say 600 mph (you almost feel like it's going to stall) you don't have much space before going off the map.
I'm not crapping on anyone in particular. I'm just not that great. I have a hard time lining up on a target, then checking the mini map for red dots instead of blue ones. Everything in the jet just happens too fast for my old ass. But thanks for the suggestions. Some were worth trying.
learn to fly real close along buildings, under bridges, over water, and the faster the better cause he'll want to chase you and i doubt he will have the same reaction time, and time of cutting the corner. i guarentee you he'll 1) crash into something 2) make an huge corner losing you. if theres nothing in area to use make some corkscrews, it will most probably confuse him and he'll have restable his plane giving you little time to escape
Your probably not going to get alot of info from the guys that fly ****loads and make it as difficult as possible for you to shoot them down.
That said, the best and only advice I will give you, fly every single fricken chance you get. If a map has a jet on it, get in it as often as possible. When you chase someone down and they lose you right away, try to remember the circumstances and things the person did to do it, then learn to use it for yourself. If you get shot down, get back up in the air, I don't care how good the guy is, get back up.
You may get some useful tips from people, but your best opportunities to learn, are by experience. Someone can tell you something til your blue in the face, but you need to learn when the proper time is to do some things and why you should'nt do some things at all.
Practice this move. It is very hard on the BF2 engine, but it is extremely satisfying when pulled off correctly. It's called the Kobra (with a K cause Russians are cool); the jet in the image is an Su-37, which comes with thrust-vectoring nozzles like the F22.
Basically, you aim to stall at the top, at which point you are carried downwards and engage full throttle again. I vary this technique by doing a full loop (Known as a Kulbit) as opposed to reversing direction. Most of the time the bandit will fly right by and you'll be on his 6 in no time.

The above post doesn't work. Don't balee da hype... The BF2 engine does not allow for thrust vectoring and you lose control of the plane below a certain airspeed. You may be able to pull out and recover but not in a clean and controlled manner. That said, the best way to lose a tailing pilot is to first understand what you are up against. If he is in a faster and more maneuverable plane, you're in a bit of trouble. Many of the tactics discussed here are decent but only against a lesser pilot. Flying close to buildings and the ground only works if the pilot behind you isn't very bright. I tend to keep the altitude advantage and fly slightly above the enemy when trailing. You need to learn to use misdirection to break away. Use several positive G (that's pulling back on the stick) climbs and banks. Get him used to that being your tactic. Then pull a negative G (pushing forward on the stick) move. Your adversary will tend to anticipate your bank and you can get some seperation. Also, go vertical abruptly and instead of just pulling all the way around in a loop, throw a half roll in at the top of the maneuver. The change in aspect makes it slightly more difficult for a pilot to follow you. Also, use that same maneuver and flare at the top of the loop during your half roll. This will cause the trailing pilot to get a radar lock on your flare which will be moving off in a different direction. He may briefly not recognize that the lock is on a flare and not on you again giving you time to extend and escape. There are quite a few more ways to escape a trailing enemy but most are situational. I'd be glad to discuss them on TS in a server sometime if you like. Find me under ||The_Animal||.
Do a split-S.
Fly up to 300 ft. Do 1/2 roll, and loop all the way down untill you come level again. Its impossible to follow (in my experiences)
The split S is a solid move at the right altitude...I wouldn't call it impossible to follow, though. It's not that hard to follow if you gain a bit of altitude before you begin the roll under. Most pilots, however, forget to get to the right altitude before following the move and boom...Pancake...Since most pilots in this game aren't very experienced, you will lose/kill alot of enemy pilots with this move....Originally Posted by FaultySanity
