PETA Objects to Whaling in Assassin's Creed 4

In case you didn't know, whaling will be a part of Assassin's Creed 4: Black Flag. Naturally, PETA is bitching about it. Here is Matt Bruce from PETA's International Grassroots Campaigns speaking out against the game.

"There are so many creative minds at Ubisoft that are involved with the Assassin's Creed series that we find it really disappointing that they feel the need to glorify whaling. PETA encourages video game companies to create games that celebrate animals, not games that promote hurting and killing them.

"This would be a different story if the game portrayed the cruelty and horror experienced when a whale is literally fleeing for her life and then shot with a harpoon — or even several harpoons — and forced to struggle for hours or be hacked apart while still alive aboard a ship.

"In Assassin's Creed 4, you get ahead by killing. Joe Shmoe who plays this game in his mother's basement in the safety and comfort of his home will feel a sense of accomplishment by killing this whale."

Ubisoft responded with an appropriate series of words from their PR manager, Stone Chin.

"History is our playground in Assassin's Creed," Chin said. "Assassin's Creed 4: Black Flag is a work of fiction that depicts the real events during the golden era of pirates. We do not condone illegal whaling, just as we don't condone a pirate lifestyle of poor hygiene, plundering, hijacking ships and over-the-legal-limit drunken debauchery."

Perhaps PETA missed the part where the entire series centers around finding and assassinating humans on a very regular basis. Where is their outrage over that? These are the same morons that euthanize up to 85% of the animals that end up at their shelters, are accused of running a "slaughterhouse" in some cases, and were charged with animal cruelty.

Yeah, PETA, we're going to have to ask you to shut the hell up now.

    Those poor virtual animals!

Glad you mentioned the shelters Zips.

Common animals are not the same as rare ones.

That whale is about to whip the shit out of a seagull or two, where's the outrage at that?

I think PETA looses a lot of credibility and a lot of their reason to their motives by doing retarded crap like this.
