Oculus Rift Recommends GTX 970 and Intel i5-4590

Oh, I hope you were sitting down when you read that headline. Oculus VR has come out with their recommended system specs for the upcoming consumer release of the Oculus Rift. They say that for the "full Rift experience" you will need to have the following system.

    • NVIDIA GTX 970 / AMD 290 equivalent or greater
    • Intel i5-4590 equivalent or greater
    • 8GB+ RAM
    • Compatible HDMI 1.3 video output
    • 2x USB 3.0 ports
    • Windows 7 SP1 or newer

These requirements are probably just a bit steeper than what many where expecting. Even according to the Steam Hardware Survey, only about 5% of all Steam users actually have the specified rigs to handle Oculus Rift.

Oculus also notes that the 0.6 SDK for PC users has been released in their latest blog update.
