PC Version of Dead or Alive 5: Last Round Lacks Online, Soft Engine, and More

In February, Koei Tecmo "threatened" not to bring any more PC games to market if people tried to mod Dead or Alive 5: Last Round. Today, it was revealed that the PC version of Dead or Alive 5 isn't a port or a fork of the current-gen versions, but rather a port of the previous generation.

That's right, the PC version of Dead or Alive 5 is an upgraded version of the PlayStation 3 version of the game. Actually, it seems to come across as a hybrid of the PS3 and PS4 versions of the game. Naturally, it will still feature some PC specific enhancements, just don't expect it to use the Soft Engine that is used on the PS4 version of the game.

    • 4K resolution supported
    • Particles and other effects are from the PS3 version
    • Shadows are equivalent to the PS4 version
    • Anti-aliasing can be used
    • The arenas of "Danger Zone" and "Crimson" are not included
    • New hairstyles are included
    • Soft Engine is not used
    • Character selection is based off of the PS4 version

Perhaps you have mixed feelings about this. That's fine if you do, but there is still one more area where the PC version is lacking: Online.

If you want to fight others via the Internet you are going to have to wait an extra three months after the game's release. Let's not forget either that the PC version of the game won't be out until March 30, a date that is well over a month after the console versions were released.

Lack of "Soft Engine" is fine whatever, not using the new particle effects is odd as it's the biggest difference between the last and current gen versions... Maybe it's a balance to keep its requirements down but then just enable users to choose which effects to use, missing stages is also a bummer.

    Hope this version isn't inferior.

And the lack of online multiplayer for three months? That's kind of already firmly in the "inferior" category in my book. Soft Engine lack is sure, whatever. Particles suffering does suck. Lack of all of the stages sucks. Their attitude in general for the PC version is probably the worst issue. We're used to companies just crapping all over the PC release of their muti-platform releases, but to come out over a month late, lack content, lack online, and then also demand that you don't mod the game else the studio will never release another game on PC again? Yeah, screw that kind of terrible practice.

Indeed, i can only explain their approach to the PC version as being similar to From Software's with the first Dark Souls, it's like the dev team can't quite figure out a PC release... though nowhere near that bad of course. I seem to remember the PC version of Dynasty Warriors 8 was also ported from PS3 despite having a PS4 version.

While it's strange that a game which has had online in all its versions for the last 3 years won't have it this time, i have played it for the last 3 years so i'm not too annoyed, i can understand if others are angrier than me.
