Well it was more just that song... and I'm pretty sure Dave Grohl isn't known for his awesome drumming, just the presence in the bands he's in. All are in iconic bands, but they all made pretty simple music.
Although thats why I enjoy TKV a good bit because its a bit more than that.
Riiiiiiiight. "Simple Music" Maybe if he used a double bass pedal?
Anyway, dude. Listen to music that sounds good. That's it. I listen to just about everything if I like it, whether or not I think it's complex enough or not. And once again if we start debating about how difficult music is, every band metal (no matter the sub-genre) or not is just simplistic music compared to a Beethoven symphony so that whole argument is moot.
It took me about 6 months each to learn the bass and then guitar adequately enough to play most music. I took me 7 years before I was the principal clarinetist of an orchestra. One takes a bit more skill.![]()
Haha, Jake I never said I thought it was simple to the point of me not wanting to listen to it... I don't really even listen to much "metal," I actually steer a lot more towards hardcore influenced stuff. Metalcore as a whole is becoming way too over saturated (which is why we have awful bands like Asking Alexandria and Emmure) and annoying, but I still enjoy certain bands. Its like any other genre, it has its awful bands, and its good ones.
Music like that simply won't impress me... I don't care if it impresses anyone else, but I enjoy music that is powerful even if it's fairly simple. I listen to way too many indie rock-ish bands to base my taste solely off technicality, although I do think that a band that the amount of the technical/originality/catchiness/songwriting ability factor plays a huge factor in how "good" the band is.
On the topic of Dave's drumming... I was just addressing how that song you posted could be so much better (in my opinion) if he just switched it up a bit instead of making a show of how badass he is by hitting them harder than he needs to, and no... he doesn't need a double bass pedal to do so. The video you posted about him is stuff I've seen kids do on the drumset in my basement (heck I could probably do that with an hour of practice), he just makes a big show of it.
Best example of what I'm talking about in the first few paragraphs is Copeland, this song is mega simple, but the songwriting is awesome... and it's a massively powerful. They have a bunch of songs like this, which is why they're one of my favorite bands, besides the fact that I have a high affinity for high pitched male voices. :P
So I take it you don't like Bonham's drumming style much then?
It's just boring to me... *shrug* Thats cool if you dig it, but most of it just sounds like something out of a "drums 101" video on youtube or something.
Ok. I can understand not like Dave Grohl that much. But Bonham? Really?!
Does Buddy Rich sound generic too?
I liked that better haha, must have caught a bad video of him or something.
One of my favorite drummers is in this band
RX bandits :awes2
supposed see them at last years soundwave... but missed them![]()
I would be pissed, they've been one of my favorite bands since 8th grade haha. They're the perfect mix of not-too-much-prog-but-still-prog with ska/punk and whatever else wild influences they have.
I only have one of their albums, but they are pretty awesome. Still pissed off though. Stupid early start. I also missed Isis, I need my Post-metal fill.![]()
