Hey
Since I'm getting my own new computer, I was wondering how you guys were organizing your storage space.
Just say how many drives you have and, it any case, how you split them.
My actual 'family' computer :
250GB Western Digital
. Partition 1 (130G): C\ - System files and programs only
. Partition 2 (110G): E\ - Media and graphics (movies, textures, samples, etc.)
40GB Western Digital
Unpartitioned (40G): Z\ - Personal data (home data, photos, music, school work, etc.)
I split them like that, so when I reinstall Windows, I keep my data files safe.
Im just wondering on my next system if I should just use one big 320G drive or maybe partition it into 2.
Here is a nice setup:
1 WD 80GB 10,000 RPM Drive
-Windows Operating System Only
1WD 160GB 7,200/10,000RPM Drive
-Only Video Game Installs
1WD 320GB Drive 7,200/10,000RPM Drive
-Software Installations, Data Files, etc.
1WD 40GB Drive 7,200/10,000RPM Drive
Reading Documents, Tutorials, saved web pages, etc.
10TB+ 10,000RPM Drives (Not Needed)
-Data, Scratch Drives for Video/Photo/Sound Editing/Rendering
--These drives don't have anything on them and are used for Adobe's Scratch Storage ...and fill up really fast...
Seagate 160GB 7,200RPM Drive
-System, And Game installs
Simpletech External 320GB 7,200RPM Drive
-Music, Videos, Pictures, etc....
I have one 500GB 7200 rpm HDD.
That's it.![]()
Two drives in RAID 0.
C: partition of 30GB for OS and basic programs
D: partition of 436GB for Games, data, heavy programs.
External hard drive to backup anything important.
Crunch
320GB drive (~300GB usable)
100GB = OS/Applications/Games
200GB = Storage (music, pics,video)
1 x 500gb Seagate... OS and System files.
1 x 320gb WD......... Porn.. and whatever else...
I use a 320GB WD, and a 500GB Samsung.
2 x 160gb in RAID0 Array (320gb total)
2 x 400gb in RAID1 Array (400gb total)
All apps, images and speed reliant data go on the RAID0
Media, work and everything else goes on the RAID1 so if one hard disk fails, i still have a full backup of it![]()
Alex you have 2 400Gb ones...And you say you have 400Gb total?
