An Australian site by the name of Kotaku is reporting that certain regions of the world will not get the opportunity to play Battlefield Heroes. Take a look:
If you were looking forward to trying out DiCE's Battlefield Heroes, the free-to-play game announced by EA earlier this week, think again. EA Australia has informed us that the game will not be available to audiences outside of the US and Europe.
Which, last time I checked the atlas, included Australia.
Considering the game will be downloadable, I'm not exactly sure how the publisher will enforce this, but I'm sure it'll find a way.
EA was unable to explain why the game won't be released outside the aforementioned territories, but the words "for the moment" were tossed around, so we may see the title eventually. Just not right now.
More news as we get it, but my guess is EA wants to trial the free-to-play model before throwing it out to the world at large.
Remember, any news right now isn't final and many aspects of the game, including where it will be available, will likely change in the coming months.
oh F*** off that is a load I am so sick of this s**t I was excited that I would be able to play this game run around and have fun EA has just lost all my respect even though it had so little left they can all go get..... I will stop here
I mean Australia is already missing out on heaps:
We don't have that fast of Internet
We pay a load more for games
We don't have MyIs Australia or TGN Aus Servers(:P )
We Miss out on other games aswell
I am so sick of it
Quite unfortunate that it won't be available outside the US or Europe. I wonder how they will control this, as people can lie about their place of living.
(Had to edit out some words in your original post so I wouldn't have to remove it)
I know it sucks...BUT...who knows if this will even hold true by the time the game is out. And like the article says, how can they really restrict who downloads it when it is just that, a download. People can just put in fake addresses if they do it by address. So we'll see what happens and how DICE/EA responds to all of this.
As far as i understand the game in not only downloadable, but has to be launched from their website. So they could restrict it that way.Originally Posted by Kotaku
Central loginservers or maybe even gameservers will also give them control.
Hopefully if it does end up like this someone finds a work around that wont get them sued I really wanted to play this game.... lol EA just got a loss instead of a gain..... there sad
and Sorry Spawn just a little angry lol
Just to add a little bit of info Australia doesn't allow ingame ads that might be one prob even though we are getting them in 2142 no matter what and same with CS 1.6 :S
Lol i care more about what kenji said bout our net speed we need 2 speed it up BAD!!!
FFS we have the worst net out of all the civilised contenents![]()
This game is already bordering on ridiculous for me.
They are giving a free game to only Europe and US, im sorry but the last time i checked, Australians and everyone outside the US and Europe payed for EA's games aswell....
Or else what? Drop Bear invasion?Originally Posted by Various Down Unders
Seriously, the main thing keeping Australia out of the loop may be their own legal system. It was a benefit with BF2142, but now you have to pay the price.
The argument that you pay for EA games too is really irrelevant since this is not intended as a freebie to loyal customers, but as a self-financing product.
