  1. Games and real life.

Ever since I was probably 6 year's old I been playing video games. At the age of 11 I started playing games to progress my character, my hero. Taking mass amount of time a day. Because it was always something new when I logged on. Something always to do. Later on in life I came across World of Warcraft, Everquest, Runescape, Battlefield 2. I could spend 12 hours a day on World of Warcraft and having another 12 hr session with something new to do the next day. And the next... And the next... And the next... And still after 2 years of day after day you still have something to do.

My point is, are games becoming to advanced? So advanced that it takes too much time in life? Whatever happen to games like galaga where you would have 30 minute to an hr max session. And be done? I understand there is a thing called "Balance" but how can you really fill my head with this balance bullsh*t. When the games are starting to have whole new worlds, and your stuck in the world everyday progressing in it. Like you would in real life. We were gifted with a life. And were basically throwing it away for some virtual life? Maybe not as harsh as I said it. But you catch my drift.

I started spending hours and hours a day programming me simple games. Building engines and eventually building worlds and having the player enter into that world. And I began to think about the possibility's I could put in for the player to do. And I began to think more. Are we taking entertainment too far? Too much entertainment? Actually I'm sorry there is no such thing as too much entertainment. Are we spending our lives in somebody else's life? Are we going to far in that direction of living someone else's life. But in reality it has no life.

What would be the point in living you were not well... living your ... life?

    Think about it. And discuss.

Games give you opportunities to do what you can't in real life, where you can kill your friends for fun and then you'll all respawn in 15 seconds later to kill each other again and again. Or you can do some illegal street racing if you want to and go 200 mph or fly through intersections and hit as many cars and make a huge pile-up. What it really comes down to is being able to express yourself in ways you're not able to in real life.

I see what your saying and you make a good point. But maybe life isn't all about killing your friends and doing illegal stuff. Atleast that's how I look like it. You know what actually after you just made that statement for the first time I realized what all these people are saying video games make you do crazy stuff (IE: Hurt people, kill people, steal, try to reanact what's in the game) or maybe there just crazy in the first place(?) lol. But like you said it express's what we can't do in life.

So do you wan't to kill your friends in real life? If that was you could say "Alright"? to do?

Or do you want to go 200MPH and possibly kill someone? or kill yourself? or hurt someone?

Actually what if you want to do something fun, without suffering the consequences. And so you do it in a game? But that can actually be a bad thing. Because it doesn't teach you in life. When you have a problem in life, don't back down, face your consequences, dont run away from them or try to ignore them.

I dont know. I think my problem is though. I think too much . But hey atleast I dont ignore my problems. Haha.

Well, if we go into Freudian psychology, one could argue that videogames are a means for the id to express itself without the intervention of the ego or the superego. Additionally, they could be seen as a form of catharsis, through which agression can be channelled and released in a safe manner.

For me, games actually means nothing. If I have time to spare I play. Otherwise just study and work.

Nowadays, my "work" includes a bit of gaming.

Exactly. And death is just "need better hardware", or if you're Jesus, BRB.

    games are entertainment.

don't you think a similar discussion occurred when movies started having sound and became "advanced". Some people find entertainment in TV. Some in Video Games. Some in sports or exercise. A happy median is always nice.

Besides, if you're worried about playing too many video games.....give it a year or two and something will happen to take time away from video games. it's life.
