This is a hate or like movie.

Nothing is new in it. Sir. barely did anything in it to make it original. Xalias made it look good.

    1/10 to sir.

8/10 to xalias (the bf2 explion of the chopper would have been just fine)

    Music 10/10 bar none
Story 5/10 good story but draw out too long.

Sir. didn't have any say in the story, the story and directing was done by =TOL=, Sir. only helped by providing some actors and Xalias for editing.

    sound effects 9/10

The sound effects were great especially the chopper sounds and the sound of the trees rustling when the camera moves through them, possibly the only thing that brought a point down was the sound of the debris from the helo explosion which could have been tweaked slightly.

    special effects 9/10

Again amazing, the Sir. sign at the start was especially well done although maybe a little to transparent, the helo explosion lost a point on realism because well it appeared from no where but the effect its self was great.

    Music 10/10

Great choice of music and nicely used (a lot of John Powell tracks there from The Bourne Supremacy)

    Editing 10/10

Editing was great cuts at the perfect time all the way through the film.

    Directing 6/10

Directing was definitely not the best in the world I don't know how much experience =TOL= Joe$moe has at directing so I cant comment on how well he did it, it may have been his first time or 21st but 2 hours filming wasn't enough.

    Story 5/10

Again not the best in the world a lot of people didn't seam to pick up on the story very well (although I did), overall the story (if you did catch it) was actually not to bad, not very well presented but an OK story never the less.

Overall 8.1/10 Apart from the obvious letdowns its great.

I mostly share Sir. Eden's opinion. He pretty much covered everything I would have said too.

The only two things I would like to point out are the beginning and the end of the movie: I missed some background informations there within the movie. It didn't became clear to me why the heli flew over to the hotel at all. I only "know" it because of forum posts.

At the end I was wondering why another BlackHawk was taking off short after an attack on the carrier. That's been a little confusing.

Everything in between was good imo.

First of all, I want to congratulate you Xalias for a job well done! This is an excellent movie and it's obvious how much effort you put into it. I've been eagerly waiting for Burning Sands to be released and now it's here, I'm even more impressed with your editing skills and knowledge about the art of movie making. You've got quite some talents my friend!

Now, let me reflect on the movie... here's some constructive criticism

You made a superb logo, nice visuals and good sound effects, very profesionally looking! The intro was quite good, not too long not too short, just enough for the opening credits. Sadly enough, I get a little bit tired of seeing all the same establishing shots of Oman. The same goes for Karkand but unless you change the atmosphere of the shot (colors, lighting) it has become a dull location.

The bh sequence is one of my favorites, good approach in building up the tension, the sniper shots, camera shakes, travels etc... nicely done! Although I miss some interaction/dialogues/voice acting between soldiers (perhaps focussing on the group a little bit more putting in more drama). The explosion of the bh was impressive, you've managed to seemlesly integrate combustion effects. There is only one effects-shot that I wasn't satisfied with, the smoke coming out from the bh. It seemed to me that it was misplaced.

<O</OAnother point of criticism is the way you used transitions between shots, you tend to speed up the beginning of your upcoming shot (apperantly only a few frames) but it distracted me. It gets a bit annoying after some time. Maybe you should have used a smoother transition technique, crossfading or dissolves.

Also, I like alot of shots where the camera travels from normal speed to fast and back to normal resulting in the zipshot effect. The scene where the usmc throws a grenade is an example of this.

The story, directing and acting performances were not that good to be honest. But judging on the amount of material at your disposal, it's relatively ok. I'm curious what you would have done with higher quality material, I bet that it would have been a top notch production! One thing I personally missed was the lack of dramatic moments. Like I said earlier, focussing on a group or person could have made it better. Also, the story wasn't very clear to me. I was confused at the end, but reading the comments from other Sir. members made it all clear.

The music from Arnold/Powell fit the shots most of the time but you should have mixed it with other music. I can come up with a dozen of cues from Zimmer that add more dramatical feelings to your movie. But maybe that's just me for being a Zimmer lover.

Oh and one last thing. Try to use 3rd party sound effects a little bit more, the original battlefield sounds are not so good and screw up alot of your shots.

Overall, I give Operation Burning Sands 7/10.
Xalias, you get a 9/10 for your editing work. Keep it up!

PS I would like to adress the totalbf2 community. Most of the comments I've read so far were relatively negative. Ok, the movie is not very original and it may have alot of flaws (acting wise) but that's no reason for bullying Xalias. He has done an amazing job in creating this movie so he deserves everyone's respect. If you think it's that easy to make a movie like burning sands with a crappy game engine that bf2 is, well just try and come back. If not, well then put a little bit of thought in your comments and give Xalias some credit. He has put alot of his (spare) time into this project and should be treatened with respect!

Oh and for those wondering when the hell 'Sands of Fire' will come out, patience! The project is still underway.

I actually wouldn't mind seeing a small series on this, where the MEC are in a war with the US in (place country here) and are mounting a big front to push US forces out of the country in a last effort to regain control over there homeland.

Put in some voice acting and some new maps and with Xalias' editing it could be one of Sir.'s best (and well only) series.
