I believe they shoot depleted uranium bullets. That first one definitely does.
Ah, wikipedia says they shoot tungsten armor piercing bullets. A real anti-tank bullet.
I know there are laser guided bullets as well. I know it's lame to post things like this without info. Inside the bullet, it has fibers like tendons that stretch or relax to guide the bullet. The guiding isn't anything like a missle or bomb, but it can change the trajectory a little bit.
:edit: Here ya go. It's old, but what I was talking about - smart bullets.
Okay, the bullet makes sense. It rather chnages the angle of the tip of the bullet and then airflow around it, leading it into its intended target.
Of course the depleted uranium also makes sense. Thanks for the links. Its always surprising to see how far weapon technology is going, allow it is limited due to other factors such as weight, recoil, and ammunition.
that is pure hollywood, the speed at which that guns shoots NO MAN could handle the recoil and it would send the shooter to his back, plus it would be very impractical, the amount of rounds you would have to carry for at least 1 min of shooting would be too much weight to be carrying around.Originally Posted by Blackhawk5
the cool thing about that gun is that there are no moving parts, that is if you dont count the bullets of course.Originally Posted by DR.ZYKLON
the bullets are stacked inside the barrel from base to tip, and a eletrical charge is sent to the bullets, no bullet casings. I beleive this prototype/Gun is called Metal storm.

Already in the game, attached to the side of the blackhawks. And as First To Fight said carrying enough ammo to make it worthwhile would be impossible, rate of fire is switchable between 60 and 100 rounds per SECOND. Not to mention the backpack full of Duracells you'd need to run the thing.Originally Posted by Blackhawk5
The first looks similar to the XM29, which I'm pretty sure it is. The second one is an XM25. I don't remember what the third one on is, but I've seen it before.Originally Posted by FirstToFight
The first one is the XM29 OICW, 2nd one is indeed the XM25 and the 3rd one is the XM307 ACSW, the ACSW operates very much the same way as the XM29 (the XM29 OICW uses 20mm Airbusting rounds, unlike the 25 and 307 which uses 25 mm) and the XM25, using laser range finders and "smart bullet" technology, but the only difference is that is a friggin machine gun, imagine that shooting 25mm airbursting grenade rounds at a high rate of fire, 250-300 RPM. the XM29 was cancled due to weight problems and other factors.Originally Posted by Shrike360
pretty cool stuff, now I want one of each![]()

The XM8 is also so far cancelled due to "several complaints about non-competitive procurement of the XM8 system from Heckler-Koch USA, US Army first opened the bidding for contract to other companies, and then, in the July 2005, suddenly suspended the entire OICW Increment 1 program to re-think the entire set of requirements for the possible replacement of current M16 rifles and M4 carbines. These requirements will be re-viewed as Joint Services effort. At the present time, it seems that development of HK XM8 is suspended; it may be resumed if XM8 suit the new US Joint Service Requirements for a new assault rifle system; or, it may not".Originally Posted by FirstToFight
The SCAR is still running, though, and is currently being tested in the field.
Yeah I was just joking...
lol well. if onley bf3 was alredy out!
I hear the Tavor TAR-21 was a pretty good assault rifile, compact, reliable, accurate (more so than the m4/16 family) and Lightweight, and right rate of fire. Plus I heard the M8 has alot of recoil. Maybe US will addopt this? but I dont think so, DOD and it's generals dont like the bullpup configuration. but a nice gun to use.
