  • Bethesda Issues Meager Compensation in Response to Nylon Bag Controversy

Yesterday, we brought you the story about how Bethesda pulled a bait-and-switch on consumers that purchased the $200 Power Armor Edition of Fallout 76. Today, we have a bit of an update on the story to share with you. Bethesda noticed that there were suddenly a lot of eyes on them after multiple media outlets picked up the story, and in response they decided to try to make things right.

Bethesda, by way of the official Fallout Twitter account, announced a bit of compensation late last night. While you may be stuck with a cheap nylon bag instead of the canvas bag you were promised, you at least get...

    Drumroll please?

    ...

500 Atoms? What's an Atom? Atoms are the in-game currency that you can purchase with real-world money. These Atoms are spent on the in-game microtransaction store for Fallout 76. 500 Atoms can be purchased for $5 of real-world currency.

Yes, you read that correctly. Bethesda feels as though 500 Atoms is a fair compensation to those that spent $200 on a lie. Let's give Bethesda the benefit of the doubt here. Maybe 500 Atoms can be used to purchase a lot of items from the store?

According to this Reddit post, 500 Atoms won't actually get you much at all. You can pick up a pair of Black Overalls for 400 Atoms and then buy a 100 Atom photo frame for the game's photo mode.

You could maybe buy a bunch of 50 Atom a piece Icons. You could buy one emote as they cost 300 Atoms each. Or, as the following image shows, you can buy a door and some plants.

The 500 Atoms seems like a real drop in the bucket in the grand scheme of things. The two provided excuses from Bethesda ("too expensive" and "unavailability of materials") comes across as a bit of a lie. You can find canvas bags on Amazon that start at around $15-$20 and that's for a completed product. There is no doubt that the materials and manufacturing costs a fair bit less than the retail prices for these items. Looking outside of Amazon, you can find even cheaper canvas bags being sold.

This is another slap in the face to the loyal fans that were willing to spend as much as they did on a largely broken product.

Quick TGN E3 2018 Wrap Up

E3 was last week and I do believe the dust has finally settled. I decided, for my own sanity really, to try to take things a bit slower this year with getting news up from the event. This was...
