  • Fallout 76's $200 Edition Promised Canvas Bag is a Real Stinker

The $200 Power Armor Edition of Fallout 76 promised to include a "Canvas West Tek Duffel Bag" in addition to some other neat gear like a wearable Power Armor helmet, map, and more. The problem is that consumers that spent the $200 for this Power Armor Edition ended up getting little more than a trash bag instead of the fancy canvas one they were promised.

What fans actually received for their monetary show of support was a cheap nylon bag. This is, obviously, not the one that was advertised.

Many sites, including Amazon, still show the canvas bag included with the Power Armor Edition of the game. This special edition was announced back at Bethesda's E3 conference this year. A part of the presentation used the above image and it continued to be used in subsequent marketing materials for the game.

In fact, the image we're using at the top of this post is the same one that we included when Bethesda sent out the Fallout 76 announcement media back in June of this year.

Here is the response that one user received concerning their disappointment with the bait and switch.

That sounds like a reasonable response. It's disappointing, but it is still a reasonable response. However, some responses from the Bethesda Gear Helpdesk are a little more direct.

"The bag was too expensive to make. (They) aren't planning on doing anything about it." That is certainly one hell of a response there. It's true but it's also not a very consumer friendly response to provide. As mentioned, it's also very damning that the canvas bag is still being used to advertise the Power Armor Edition as of the time of this posting. It's false advertising at best and a bait-and-switch at worst.

Bethesda did issue a statement on the poor customer service response.

"We’re investigating the response from the Bethesda Gear Store Support team and we apologize to the customer who took the time to reach out. The support response was incorrect and not in accordance with our conduct policy. Unfortunately, due to unavailability of materials, we had to switch to a nylon carrying case in the Fallout 76: Power Armor Edition. We hope this doesn’t prevent anyone from enjoying what we feel is one of our best collector’s editions."

So, which is it: Was it too expensive to make or was there a material shortage? Either way, this is just another chapter in the tragic tale that is Fallout 76.

Quick TGN E3 2018 Wrap Up

E3 was last week and I do believe the dust has finally settled. I decided, for my own sanity really, to try to take things a bit slower this year with getting news up from the event. This was...
