  • Call of Duty: Black Ops 4 Breaks Sales Records for Activision

Activision announced today that Call of Duty: Black Ops 4 was set a new launch day sales record. According to the publisher, Black Ops 4 is the "biggest one day digital release" in their history.

This naturally broke the previous record set by 2017's Call of Duty: WWII. Black Ops 4 also set records on the PlayStation for most day one digital full game sales through the PlayStation Store. It was also the best-selling Activision Xbox One digital game on day one. Though this was the first year for the Call of Duty franchise to appear solely on Battle.net, sales of the PC version were more than double when compared to last year's release on Steam.

“Black Ops 4 is an incredible game, and the community’s response to it has been amazing. We have shattered multiple digital day one sales records, and the number of people who connected online on day one to play has grown year on year,” said Rob Kostich, EVP and GM, Call of Duty. “But probably the most important thing is that the community is having so much fun across Multiplayer, Zombies and Blackout. We are so incredibly thankful for the community’s trust and support. This is just the beginning, it’s going to be an incredible journey with Black Ops 4.”

Digital downloads of Call of Duty: Black Ops 4 are based on unit sell-through on the first day of availability worldwide. Largest day one digital sales in Activision history based on combined console and PC units sold through on the first day of availability worldwide. Largest day one digital full game sales on PlayStation Store according to PlayStation. Largest Activision Xbox One digital game sales in Activision’s history based on Activision sales data.

As always, you can check out our previous coverage of Black Ops 4 for additional details. Call of Duty: Black Ops 4 released this Friday for the PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC via Battle.net. It starts at $60 (USD) and includes competitive multiplayer modes, Zombies, and their battle royale mode called Blackout.

I'm going to put it down to this being the first COD ever to have youtube and twitch personalities behind it, purely due to the BR mode.
Annoyingly, this gives Activision the ammo needed to keep skipping single player campaigns, and put less development into the traditional modes.
