  • Shenmue and Shenmue 2 Getting Re-Releases on PS4, XB1, and PC in 2018

Sega apparently announced tonight that they are re-releasing both Shenmue and Shenmue II for the PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC some time in 2018. People seem to be rather excited about this announcement. Also, the Steam Store listing for Shenmue I&II is already up.

Sega says that the Shenmue I&II re-release is the "definitive versions" of both games. They will include such modern features like scalable screen resolutions, choice of modern or classic control schemes, various graphical options on the PC version, updated user interface, and the option to play with either the original Japanese or English voice-overs. I believe the voice-over stuff was another big request among fans.

Shenmue I&II will be released both digitally and physically, at least for the console versions.

Hopefully this compilation comes out ahead of the planned 2018 release of Shenmue III. Players will get to see the origins of the story that began in 1999 on the Sega Dreamcast. Players will step into the shoes of Ryo Hazuki as he ventures out to look for sailors or whatever.

That's another of my wishes granted.
I've been tempted to try and get a Dreamcast emulator working to play the first again, then plugging in my 360 to play the Xbox version of the 2nd as i love the English voice acting, now i don't have to .
Besides a few general issues running it on emulators the main thing that doesn't work is the arcade games like Hang On and Space Harrier, so looking forward to playing modern and fully functional versions of these games.
Sega teased a "huge announcement" for Sega Fes 2018 (which is apparently a thing), was this it? Because it's what i asked for after hearing the news, along with PC ports for Yakuza, Virtua Fighter 5 and more far fetched requests in re-releases for Sega Rally Revo and Afterburner Climax, i'd also love to be able to play Outrun Online Arcade again.

I loved the originals and was so glad when Shenmue 2 came out for the Dreamcast in Europe.

Ironically, cikame you could always separately emulate Yu Suzuki's arcade games like Out Run anyway

Yeah, but there's an added layer of role play when you're in Japan in 1986 and you can play period correct video games :P.
I wouldn't ordinarily boot up a session of Space Harrier, but in Shenmue, especially when you're done moving the story along for the day and are looking to waste a little time, it's a really cool diversion.

Kind of like Yakuza's Sega arcades right?

I like how the upcoming Yakuza will have Virtual-On. I will never acknowledge A Certain Magical Virtual-On/Toaru Majutsu No Virtual-On as a title in the series, and by that I mean both the game and the light novel. Screw that stupid crossover nobody asked for!

And the funny thing is, I'm a fan of both the animé and the Virtual-On series. Yet mixing them is like ice-cream and spinach dip. I like both, but don't freaking mix them!

(Also, thank GOD somebody else here knows what Sega Rally Revo is! I kind of wished we had Sega Rally 3 or Sega Rally Online Arcade though. Quite a significant difference.)

Quick TGN E3 2018 Wrap Up

E3 was last week and I do believe the dust has finally settled. I decided, for my own sanity really, to try to take things a bit slower this year with getting news up from the event. This was...
