  • The Best Games on Steam in 2017

There were a lot of video games released in 2017. Most of those seem to have been released on Steam, even a metric ton that you probably have no idea even exist. I'm looking at you, oh let's just say... Evil Come. What with your two user reviews. Yeah, you.

Even still there were a lot of games that did get noticed in 2017. Games like Playerunknown's Battlegrounds and The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt seemed to do a-ok in 2017, earning spots in the "Platinum" tier of the best sellers in 2017 on Steam. That's actually even more impressive when you consider one of those was in Early Access for half of the year and the other came out almost three years ago.

Other games under the best sellers umbrella include some great titles like Assassin's Creed: Origins, NieR: Automata, and Cuphead. Hell, there are even some free to play games like Dota 2 and Warframe under the "best sellers" so the sky really is the limit on these!

Being a top seller is great and all, but it doesn't mean much if the people aren't actually playing the games. It is perhaps a good thing that 2017 had a lot of people playing the same games at once through Steam. That is to say that these are the "most played" games of 2017. For instance, games like Ark: Survival Evolved, Grand Theft Auto V, Rainbow Six: Siege, Counter-Strike: Global Offensive, Playerunknown's Battlegrounds, and more all had periods where there were over 100,000 people playing at the same time. Of course, PUBG alone had over 3.1 million people playing at the same time just three days ago.

Steam also had a lot of great VR games. It also had a bunch of games that actually left Early Access limbo and became real games with proper releases! All of these categories, plus a look at the best games released in each month of 2017, can be found over at Valve's "Best of 2017" on Steam. Click around, see what's going on, and maybe you'll find some games you forgot about that you'd like to pick up before the Steam Winter Sale is over in just three days.
