We figured things would be different with the planned makeover of G4, but we never thought they'd go full stupid. You never go full stupid, but apparently G4 didn't get the memo.

According to a report by TV Guide, G4 plans to axe both of the shows from their lineup.

Both shows will take the next two months to wind down with a series of farewell episodes, inviting back favorite guests and former hosts, as well as airing audience favorite segments, such as Attack of the Show's 2007 iPhone coverage and their first Comic-Con show that aired live from the convention floor in 2006. X-Play will recap some of its past coverage from the floor of the E3 convention. Both Attack and X-Play pioneered such live convention-floor coverage.

"Attack of the Show and X-Play have been important for G4, and we want to acknowledge the creative people who have helped inspire and showcase the phenomenon of gamer culture," says G4 Media general manager Adam Stotsky. "With more than 3,000 episodes aired between them, we have more than enough great material to honor these innovators and their amazing contributions as we bring both shows to a close."

There will be a rotating lineup of co-hosts being swapped in for the remaining episodes of both shows. One can perhaps safely assume that G4 will either be nothing but 24 hour showings of Cops and Cheaters, or turn into a male version of Lifetime. After this, anything is possible.

      BAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!

Ahem... In all seriousness though I was assuming the rebranding would change the technology/video game focus to a weekly hour-long show. This makes sense given X-Play airs new episodes three nights a week, and Attack of the Show airs every weeknight. The two shows would've interfered with capturing the prime time market, so axing those two and producing a new one-hour tech/video game show airing on a weekend would fulfill their goals while keeping hardcore nerds happy. Well... For those who think the new G4 isn't another SpikeTV that is (Viacom must be laughing). Think of the new show to be similar to EP or GT.TV, airing on a weekly basis on a weekend morning/afternoon/after hours (past midnight).

Of course, we can say goodbye to live shows as this consolidated show will be taped, but I'm sure their website will have a section that highlights viral videos to "keep up" with the internet. I'm pretty sure that section will be called Twitter, but IN THE G4 SCHTYELLL! So don't worry we still have our section, it's just being renovated.
