  • Sorry Wii U - EA Not Making Any More Games for the Wii U

A few days ago, it was hinted that there would be no Star Wars games making their way to the Wii U from EA. The games are more than likely going to be built off of the Frostbite engine and EA has no intentions of making that engine work on the Wii U hardware (even though they have a mobile version of the engine coming, shh).

Today, it was revealed that EA is kind of just giving up on the Wii U completely. Like totally, not just when it comes to Star Wars but with everything.

Jeff Brown, a spokesperson for EA told Kotaku:
"We have no games in development for the Wii U currently."

Oh man, that has GOT to hurt! But wait, what about the E3 2011 promise EA made for an "unprecedented partnership" between EA and Nintendo for a bunch of Wii U titles? Yeah, seems EA already fulfilled that obligation.

Man that has got to suck for Wii U fans and owners. Maybe it's about time Nintendo pulled a Sega and started just making multi-platform software titles? A Mario and Crash Bandicoot mashup on the PlayStation 4, how fantastic would that be‽

It's funny how I've read a two-month old article today before running into this newspost, because it gives a ton of context as to why EA is doing what they're doing. It's a very detailed analysis that covers from the 16-bit generation to the present day (minus two months), although they do briefly touch upon the 8-bit era as a prologue to all the issues that occurred. It's starting to give me insight as to why EA would rebrand FIFA 12 as FIFA 13 for the Nintendo Wii.

My thoughts? EA is playing the blame game and they're using numerical statistics and Nintendo's policies to justify their actions, rather than looking at their products and figuring out how to connect to a Nintendo audience (hint: Dead Space: Extraction is not how you do it, and according to the article, a LOT was riding on that one). That, and EA is kind of acting like VALVe where they want their software distribution system to be embedded natively into the console they hate (though in VALVe's case, Steamworks doesn't replace the PSN unlike EA's failed offering to cannibalize the Nintendo Network).

Now that is a real good reason to go out and buy a WII U.
