  • Report: Microsoft to Kill Off Points System

    0 Not allowed! Not allowed!
A new rumor kicked off today by The Verge says that Microsoft will be doing away with its annoying Xbox Points system in the near future. This follows Microsoft's move to actually use real-world currency values in Windows 8 and the Windows Store.

The Verge's sources say that Microsoft will start to move the Xbox Points system to real-world currency figures. It would include a switch to letting users buy gift cards at stores or make purchases with their debit cards or credit cards. The new system will thus allow you to making purchases across all Microsoft channels with ease.

It is expected that if this rumor is true, Microsoft will announce the change at E3 2013. Maybe it'll be revealed at the upcoming Xbox event on the 21st, but E3 seems more likely.

From a business standpoint, I think that is a good move for M$.

I get that the points allowed Microsoft to have the money up front, but in the on-line age that we are in, its really not necessary.

Now kids* can go to their local Wal Mart, K Mart, Sears, Pick-N-Save and purchase a Visa gift card and then go back home and buy their stuff on Xbox.

*When I say kids I really mean adults with kids more than anything who do not have credit cards or want to give gifts that could be used for anything.
