Kiefer Sutherland Stars In Call of Duty: World at War

Manzi | Comments: 6

At Activision's non E3 press conference they announced that actor Kiefer Sutherland will be lending his voice as one of the main characters in Call of Duty: World at War. Check it out:
Activision has announced they'll be harnessing the celebrity cred of Kiefer Sutherland for their fifth installment of the Call of Duty series, Call of Duty: World at War. Known as an 80s bad boy and more recently as superstar CTU agent Jack Bauer on the hit TV series 24, Mr. Sutherland will be lending his voice to one of the games' main characters.

Great to see Treyarch and Activision going for some top voice talent in this title.
TGL Summer Mini-Leagues

[MyIS]Spawndemon | Comments: 0

The Total Gaming League has announced today the opening of summer mini-leagues. Here's what they had to say:
The TGL is proud to announce a series of eight mini-leagues for a total of seven games: Battlefield 2, Battlefield 2142, Call of Duty 4, CounterStrike: Source, Enemy Territory: Quake Wars, Frontlines: Fuel of War, and Team Fortress 2. Matches will begin on the week of August 10th; map lists, rule sets, and server configs are still being finalized for all games.

These mini-leagues will run 2-6 weeks, depending on the specific release date for the new TGL website once it is completed, and there will be no playoffs or league champions. However, there will be prizing. The top three teams (as determined by team weight and tie-breakers) at the conclusion of each individual mini-league will receive a free server from MyInternetServices.com for a 3-month time period. Combined, MyIS is awarding game servers to 24 teams.

These events represent a time for the TGL to gauge interest in past games, and to test new maps, rule sets, and server configs. We encourage everyone to participate and provide us with your highly respected feedback in the official Mini-League Forum. Registration for full league seasons and tournaments will begin as soon as the new site is released, and we look forward to acquiring additional prizing for TGL members in these future events.

-Battlefield 2 5v5 Infantry Only
-Battlefield 2142 6v6 Infantry Only
-Call of Duty 4 5v5 Hardcore S&D
-Call of Duty 4 5v5 ProMod S&D
-CounterStrike: Source 5v5
-Enemy Territory: Quake Wars 4v4 Infantry Only
-Frontlines: Fuel of War 6v6
-Team Fortress 2 6v6
Be sure to check out the Total Gaming League main page for all the information about these upcoming leagues.

Call of Duty: World at War Video Interview

Game Trailers has posted up a new video interview today with a few different members of the Treyarch team. Take a look:

Facts about Call of Duty: World at War

[MyIS]Spawndemon | Comments: 3

The guys over at PC Games Hardware had the chance to interview Cesar Stastny, PC Lead on Call of Duty: World at War. Take a look:
PCGH: Call of Duty 4 was developed cross platform and there were no major differences between the console and the PC version as far as visuals and other technical aspects is concerned. Will this be the case for Call of Duty: World at War too? If yes, what are the advantages of a cross platform development? If no, how do you optimize your technology for the different platforms?

Cesar Stastny: The only difference between consoles (Xbox360/PS3) and PC will be if a player has a machine that is less powerful than actual consoles. In this case, you may dial back some visuals to compensate. If you are running on a modern multicore CPU and Nvidia 8800 video card you will get the same look and gameplay experience with the same or better frame rate and equivalent or higher video resolutions (1680x1050 or even 1920x1080).

The big advantage of cross platform development is the guarantee that the PC gamer can play the same game on the same date as the consoles - this is not a classic port which usually ships later and from a different studio than the original developer. Treyarch has a lot of experience in cross platform development. We were one of the first studios to ship on all major consoles (Spiderman 1 and 2) and we have been doing this consistently for the past 5 years, shipping all of our games on all consoles on the same date.
