View Full Version : Glitching? Server break downs

Been on a few servers, and I see in the rules.."Glitching = Instant kick". Now, last night was on a server, and a message from the commander. Anyone caught Glitching will have a world ban. Then I say to myself...wth? Glitching? world ban? This really toggles me, wondering if I am doing something that could be wrong, and it could be glitching. What is Glitching?
Furthermore, am I the only one that encounters "Lost connection" (Something like that)? Last night was pure hell, of lost connection on servers. I couldn't even play much. The lag is getting worse, and I get lost connections more that before, and then the server turning out to be red signal, when before was green when I joined server. (oh....sometimes the server will change maps in the middle of a game, and boggles players when they lose connection for that problem and everyone is unaware of it, thinking it is the game). I fixed/cleaned everything possible on my system, and internet connections and all functions ok. I even lowered my video settings to help (medium), but all the same. In the past I recall patches fixing games that had warping, connections problems. And it did fix the problems. Now, I do not see that anymore in patches. Because it was the game(s) that did the problems, not connections. Why wouldn't the dev fix this and add it in patches? Majority of players now need high speed internet (not 56k modems....lmao) to play online... even when it comes to playing BF2142, you do need High Speed connection. I am on IDSL, and this is my up/down, and surprisingly I get game issues.

Glitching is getting into places where you're not supposed to. Fall of Berlin buildings are one example. Your connection is just your connection.
Try to stay on servers around where you live. IE don't go into Australian servers if you're in Canada or whatever.

I have a few tips more for you aside from updating punkbuster:
Before I play, I run all of my updates and scans before hand. Examples would be run your Microsoft updates, spyware and virus scans, if they are on auto and try to download, install, run & scan in the back ground while your playing this could cause local lag(too many programs fighting for download time) and system resource usage on your pc.
Its also about how much($) do you want to get rid of lag?
Heres what I also did to help as well, I purchased the following items that made one heck of a diffrence. By the way several little diffrences make one big big diffrence. The router and network card allow me to make rules for BF2142 that will prioritize BF2142 packets over everything else.
I bought a router designed for games(DGL-4300), by the way I will be upgrading to the newer one(DGL-4500) soon, so I have included the link to the new one I am getting, below the one I currently have, also they make a cheaper non wireless one that perfroms the same as the wireless ones:
http://games.dlink.com/products/?pid=370&#DGL-4300 (http://games.dlink.com/products/?pid=370&#DGL-4300)
http://games.dlink.com/products/?pid=643&#DGL-4500 (http://games.dlink.com/products/?pid=643&#DGL-4500)
I bought a network card for games:
http://www.killernic.com/ (http://www.killernic.com/)
http://www.killernic.com/products/nic.aspx (http://www.killernic.com/products/nic.aspx)
Since both of these items and my modem were gigabyte compliant, I upgraded my cables to Cat6, by the way, get the length you need, to long of cables makes a small diffrence, not much.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Category_6_cable (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Category_6_cable)
Heres a very inexpensive place to get them:
http://www.vpi.us/cat6.html (http://www.vpi.us/cat6.html)
I upgraded by hard drive to the fastest one as well, this made a real diffrence since I use BF2142 electronic version(no cd/dvd):
http://www.wdc.com/en/products/Products.asp?DriveID=189 (http://www.wdc.com/en/products/Products.asp?DriveID=189)
Also I upgraded my memory to gaming memory, this made a big diffrence as well.

Also remeber, dealing with lag is like saving money, every one thing you do is eqaul to a value, example would be the router, the network card, hard drive, memory are equal to a qaurter each, the cables are worth a dime, the cable length is equal to a nickel. In the end, it may seem like little diffrence with each piece but when you put them all together you have more. Good luck

Yeah...Network cards. I thought that would help, although I did purchase a new network card a few weeks ago, thinking it was the problem. Didn't see much of a change (linksys). Will be looking into the ones you posted in links.

When I did all of this, I dropped my in game ping from average of 65-45 to an average of 20-30.
