With the airborne being a large part of the United States Military, why did they not include at least one airborne mission? Like a hostage rescue, or a flanking maneuver during the "War Pig" mission? I think it would be kinda cool to do a modern airborne mission. I have never seen a modern airborne mission in a game.

Yeah, that would be really exciting, but modern airborne units are mostly inserted by helicopter like normal Air Assault troops. I guess the mission Charlie Don't Surf is kind of like an Airborne operation; it really reminds of the movie Blackhawk Down...

I believe what you are thinking of is the Air Assault Division? They mostly go in by helicopter. The Airborne Division still does what it did over fifty years ago. They jump out of planes as reinforcements or get dropped behind enemy lines. Except with a few add-ons like dropping Howitzers, and other large objects inside a giant box. Or they roll it off the back of a low flying aircraft, while the aircraft is going 380+ mph.

I know, I said they have kindof merged with Air Assault, which is helicopter. I forget which, but either the 82nd or the 101st became a helicopter division, and they now still insert behind enemy lines, but this time via heliborne insertion.

I never played it, but what about the one for Medal of Honor, Airborne?

what do you mean by "the one?"
What are you talking about? It's a great game, that's all I know.

Well, to be honest, I don't think armies want to parachute behind enemy lines. It's taking a huge risk in losing lives and everything has to go right with great planning. Of course, don't quote me on that..

Irish, Im talking to the OP. "The one" is the game title that I mentioned. Are you referring to a great game being CoD4 or Medal of Honor, Airborne?

Well, the 101st is an air assault division. It is a requirement when you get to Fort Campbell to go to Air Assault school.
Just as it is a requirement at Fort Bragg in the 82nd division to go to Airborne school.

The marine corp doesn't have a airborne division.

In my opinion, the maps are too big to do a paradrop.

It was cool in singleplayer, as it allowed you to land in different points on the map and carry out the mission in different ways/objectives in a different order.
But the airdrop caused a number of problems in multiplayer (aside from bugs with the game itself. :( ) and got old pretty fast.
All-in-all, it turned out to be one of those things that sounds great on paper, but not so hot in practice. Many people who posted about it, even if they liked it, thought it was a big gimmicky.
As it is right now, the value for the feature is probably not worth the coding effort. It needs more work if they plan to stick with it in future.

Charlie Don't Surf is actually a quote from one of the greatest movies of all time, Apocalypse Now.
I respect you Airbourne guys. Hell, I respect anybody in the military. Not that its important, but my eldest brother was Airbourne.

Personally, I want a WW2 game (SP only if need be) that details all of the 101st and 82nd drops as realistically as possible. Sort of like Band of Brothers. Maybe a mod for this game.

On the mission when you rescue SSGT. Griggs, you drop out of an airplane.

As above, yes it does, but it didn't work out so well in the game itself.
