if you just want to play BF2 and older titles, I would get the 7900 GS. It played BF2 maxed at 50-100+fps. Even though the 8600 is an 8 series card, it is not that great IMO.

But first, do you have AGP or PCI-Express?

wats ur budget?

wat card do you currently have?

unless you really need a new card and want dx 10, id wait for the next set of nvidia cards to come out.

and if u dont care for dx10, and juts want good frame rates, id go with wat sniper says and get something in the high 7 seires

Just want to play bf2 and cod4. Its pci express. Current card is 6600. ( When i play bf2 wake island and maps with planes this card overheats i think. Screen goes black in game. Then later game will crash. Is the 6600 known for overheating. And will the 7900 overheat aswell?

Not particularly. When was the last time you opened the case and cleaned the dust out, including the fan/heatsink on the card?

You need to give a budget you wish to spend..also if you want to stick to Nvidia or not.. otherwise you open up a large amount of options.

Ahh Never... Ive had it for almost 3 years i think now. Is that bad?

Looking at 7900 I won't be needing Dx10. Anyone know how much this will set me back?

Very. Probably enough dust buildup on the heatsinks that it looks like a sweater. Left that long you're probably going to have to remove the fans from the heatsinks in order to clean them properly.

Personally, i think the 8800gt is the best bang for buck. 7900gs is ok for old games, but if you suddenly find a new game you want to play comes out, it's unlikely to run well.

Save a bit and get a 8800gt.

How about the rest of your system specs.

Also there is a good possibility that your power supply isn't up to running the card you are looking at.

is it a prebuilt computer like a dell? If so find out by searching the web for specs of that model...otherwise open the case and look on it.

I have a 7900GT and a 8600GT and TBH the 7900 is overall better. However I can run bf2 in 1920*1200 with the 8600, not even worth trying with the 7900
