At what point did people stop playing and start whining?

It seems like nowadays, you can't play anywhere without being accused of cheating or being b*tched at for attacking uncaps (aka doing your job and keeping the enemy down): when did people lose their focus on the game to concentrate on arbitrary rules? Did they lose all willingness to find ways out of their predicaments, replacing that instead with calling for mom... I mean, the admin?

I stopped playing for two weeks (COD4 is fun) and in the 4 rounds I've played tonight, those two things happened in every single one. You can say what you want about COD4 being limited, gameplay wise, but at least people don't stop playing to complain every minute about some trivial bullsh*t.

So yeah, just thought I'd vent in my favorite forum. Bring on the hate. :nod:

You can choose to have little action in BF2, at which point you have enough time, space and whatnot, to be able to type and play. Its not that BF2 community is much different, its just the game can be unengaging. I can pretty much fly and type the whole round.

When it comes to COD4 (ETQW aswell, mind you), theres no point in typing because the messages flash off quickly. Plus, the game is fast and youre always in action, which also means that you have no incentive to stop playing, even for a moment.

Also, b"thcing occurs when a lot of same-language speaking people play together (surprise, surprise, English).

Games Ive seen limited ammount of b!thcing. CS1.6 Scandinavian servers and SWAT4 european servers. Scandinavians are just "cool" and Euro servers for SWAT4 are just too multilingual to really be using any English words. I just say "Kurwa" when Im pissed :P.

Which is why I vote for lobby system. People can b!tch their hearts out there, and if the game is fast paced, they have little incentive to do so in game.

Naw, I mean, I rarely saw them even type on the screen. You can instantly see if they are b!tching or not. For example I could go through entire rounds in a FIN server and only see the occasional "LOL", "GG", "GJ", "idiot" (:P). Yeah, I got kicked from a demo server as soon as I got killed and they found out I was alone in the chopper. It was a server modded to have 4 choppers on each team and they didn't know you could use the TVGM without a copilot... I was raping pretty well, though, because the range on those things in the demo is crazy long.

DUDE WTF SERVERS ARE YOU PLAYING ON? Come To the GzR server. They encourage uncap attacking and are probably the most fair admins I've ever come across. I've been playing on their server 24/7 for the last 3-4 months. Nothing but mostly talented players play there and the only rules that apply are the logical ones like no TKing or no punishing for accdiental TKS etc.....

Yeah, depending on the gameplay mode you select (S&D, HQ, DM, Hardcore, et cetera), it can be ridiculously fast-paced or slow and calculated: I've noticed that my style has changed from "Redbull Drinking CS fiend" to "Slow and Steady wins the race".

With helis, you see your opposition coming from far, so you have plenty of time to calculate your approach and attack: I've been doing the same thing rather unsuccessfully (to say the least :laugh:) in COD4, but I'm slowly improving.

Give it a chance and try the different modes, because it's a welcome change from BF2.

When I started to play BF2 I was really a newbie concerning online FPS and I was so overwhelmed by the whole game that I missed the whole point of the game. I got killed a lot trying to cap flags all by myself. At this time I had no mic.
But once I got the mic and joined squads to communicate, the whole game changed for me.
There came a day when I played together with a real good squad (long ago) and the teamwork was just excellent. Healing, repairing, resupply defending and attacking whatever was needed.
At this point I realized that teamwork pwns the game.
These days, teamwork is quite rare (specially on IO maps, that I play the most and where it is essential) and I find myself getting angry at ppl not trying to win the round but point whoring and nadespamming instead.
I would not describe my reaction as "whining", I usually change the server when I noticed that it's hopeless.
I guess I just got a bit more "professional" when it comes to tactics and strategies. I will not blame anyone for being a bad "killer" (I'm not a killing machine myself), but I can't stand medics that don't revive/heal, Support that doesn't support, engi that doesn't repair, SM that won't follow orders etc. you know hat I mean.
I do my best to focus on having fun, but honestly, the most fun I can get is being in a good teamworking squad.
Maybe I should start claywhoring the Hotel at Karkand to get my vet explosives/sniper.
Maybe I will have fun doing that.

Your experience seems like a mirror of mine. I continue to play the game only for the teamwork. I find that for vehicle servers, Texas Teamplayers and FCW attract team-oriented players that use their mics. For I/O, my current favorites are the RIP Infantry-only City Maps server that runs a rotation of Sharqi, Karkand and Mashtuur City and the HOG Slaughter House server that runs Karkand. The latter server is "home" to a half dozen or so clans and I typically jump in a squad with them.

I got no problem with whiners. End of the day the longer they spend whining the more I kill their a*s.

I am aware that servers have rules and I generally try to stick to them however when I see someone breaking the rules just to get their kill and points up, (usually pilots hitting uncaps) then instead of whining I jump in and hit them right back.

The worse and thing that annoys me more are hypocritical whiners. The folk who will whine, botch and moan and then turn round and break the rules and use the 'well he's doing it so I am gonna do it too excuse.'

The sort that when they get caught and booted will complain the next minute at the forums saying player x was doing it I told him to stop but he wouldn't so I went and did it back to get even.

Can't stand them, either break the rules because you want too or tell others not to break the rules because you've got some standards but please don't ever tell someone not to do something and then go ahead and do that thing yourself and for the love of god don't ever try and justfy it once you get caught.

You dont need 20 shots to kill someone. Not in SP and neither in MP. But in the end, were talking about a game where youre equipped with a "special suit", needless to say, tactical side of the game turns a new page.

To me, those games are crap. I dont really like arcadish run n' gun games, yes you can do all sorts of stuff in Crysis but i hate the fact that you have to shoot ppl 20 times to kill them... CoD is pretty much CS with better graphics. And CS just sucks IMO, small maps, crap graphics, short rounds, and ofcourse the fact that you can penetrate a concrete wall with an M4 and still be able to kill the guy on the other side. Or that you can litteraly stand on top of a grenade and survive... The list goes on

COD4 is completely different than CSS. You can start from the engagement tactics, all the way up to map build.

I played PR for a while and I thought it was crap. I like the idea of teamwork but all I was able to do in PR was walk for 10 minutes to get anywhere near the action, get shot from god knows where by god knows who, wait 45 seconds to spawn, then start walking again. Realistic? More than vanilla, I guess. Fun? Hell no. Teamwork? Not in any of the servers I was on. If you know where to look, you can find vanilla servers with much more teamwork going on.

This is just my opinion, so call me stupid or whatever, but I like 'arcade-style' vanilla action over hyper-"realistic" gameplay. I'm sure there are a lot of people that don't. That's fine with me.

Now excuse me, I'm going to go play some CoD4 or maybe some IO BF2, and I'll enjoy every minute of it, even *gasp* knowing exactly who shot me so I can get revenge on the bastard, probably using all sorts of unrealistic methods. And it will be fun as hell.
