Hooray for a spam thread. Its kind of like "What was the last song you listened to."
Write the name of the movie, if you want, you can even give a short description, and finish it with a mark 1-10.
"The Negotiator"
7/10
and
"Any Given Sunday"
AGS is one of the best sportsmovies Ive ever seen. It has captured the dynamics of Americanischen Foosballen (pun intended :p) very well, meaning- you get your new cocky stars, and fast paced football scenes. Al Pacino does a great work there and Cameron Diaz knows how to play a female bastard you would want to smack with a track and field shoe.
It doesnt quite have the story of "Remember the Titans", but it has a lot more entertainment value.

-The first movie ever to have its scenes held together with duck tape, instead of geniue script writing and directing. I'm so glad I didn't pay to see it. The only thing good about it was Shia Leboeufs very good and funny performance....oh and Megan Fox of course.

If you know at least something about the history of shipwrecks, you will recognise the tanker, the picture of its former captain, and you will laugh your *** off. The female actress in Waterworld is probably one of the most erotic woman on screen.

For a comedy, I didnt laugh once. I didnt even grin. People dont know how to make comedies, and from my own perspective, comedies are by far the hardest movies to make. Stand up comedians themselves have said that being on stage and "making it work" is perhaps one of the toughest things they have done.
The last movie which made me laugh my *** off, was "Groundhog Day", and that was a romantic movie with comic elements.

I saw Equilibrium 2 days ago. Easily one of the most stylish movies. If we take the Hong Kong action cinematography, then Equilibrium would be the Wests answer to that. A million times better aswell. Even if the Gun Kata was an "unrealistic" method, it still creates a rather acceptable explanation to how one can shoot up 20 people.

I just saw the simpsons movie on a plane and I was actually abit let down by it. I got a chuckle at the begging with the roof repairing but after that and aside from spiderpig I don't remember anything that funny. I guess it was because it seemed to not have that many of the other characters from springfield involved in it who were pretty funny.
It was worth watching if you have spare time but its not like your really missing out imo.

Troy is an epic film!:D He does however get oversighted as a typical hollywood actor but his earrlier movies like Legends of the fall, meet joe black, 7 years in tibet etc really do show what a phenominal actor he is.

I usually like his movies too, but then again he usually plays an American.
In this case I didn't really found him convincing as one of the greatest heroes of all time when he spoke. Great fights and all, but it needs more when you are based on the original Epic.

Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull
was pretty pleased with it on a whole. i know it's been slated for not going into too much depth, but considering Harrison Ford is like 60 odd and that the trilogy was completed nearly 20 years ago, they didn't do half bad with it. only thing that let me down was the ending, i felt it should have explained the events rather than it just vanishing.

Just watched Jarhead and came away from it wondering what the point of it was.. For me most war based films don't need a great storyline aslong as there is alot of blood and guts resulted from an onslaught of mindless violence.. However Jarhead had none of that and focused (imo) more on the psychological side of the war in iraq which intrested me very little as most people could pretty much comprehend or have an idea of what it must be like and a movie really couldn't elaborate on it anymore to cause justification. I wouldn't watch it again.

I did not really ever want to go to the movie the happening but I did want to know what happened. I read a few plot synopsis over the internet and it just does not seem like there is enough for me to go see it anyway. Nobody knows what is going on its like clover field except without the giant monster and people are randomly killing themselves. But at least here they tell you everything at the end and don't leave it open for a crappy sequel.
Edit: I just finished watching it online and its not worth your time or money. The plot sucks and there is no action or suspense at all. It was a good idea but there was alot of room for improvement.

The Happening
An excellent movie. Frankly, I think people who hate it, just lack the life experience and havent encountered emotions, people, situations resembling those in the movie. For example, I could immediately recognize my own old history teacher, and myself, in the main character.
People are saying god knows what crap, the most amusing reasons for dislike are-
Wahlberg doesnt know how to act- get a grip, morons. There are different people with different stress tolerance. The danger presented in the movie, is so vague, so indirect, that the fear youll feel is so much less potent than the fear of being aimed at with a hunting rifle.
Then theres the classically funny and utterly retarded "this didnt have a twist, like Sixth Sense did, it didnt feel like MNS movie". Wow...
Its an excellent thriller, as a matter of fact, the movie is just as menacing as the description sounds in IMDB-
"A paranoid thriller about a family on the run from a natural crisis that presents a large-scale threat to humanity."
The thing is, I did like many others have done, Ive spoiled it for myself, and that took a huge chunk away from the value of the movie.
Its still MNS at its finest, in the sense that its completely different from any of his movies. Well done. Haters- grow up, look at it in 5 years, from a grownups perspective.

They want Shymalan to fall into a specific movie-making role, but he hasn't done so. That confuses critics a lot. :p
All of his previous movies I always left the theater thinking about some deeper metaphysical analogy in the movie. I didn't see one right away in The Happening, and still haven't. Maybe that's just because either there isn't one or its just too deep this time. Either way, it was good.

Its "bland" because in most cases, every step the hero makes, is exactly the one you/I would have made. Hes a science teacher, and a fatherfigure; distant and close in the same time.
The peculiar thing is that we never get to actually know what the hell are these characters were watching. Its like windowpeeking into someones life for a short ammount of time. We get to see what they are doing, we get to set ourselves into their shoes, metaphorically, and then it all ends. We dont get to know them, we never know them.
Its an interesting step, and has obviously been done so to inspire a conversation. At least we didnt get 30 years of drama crammed into 15 minutes of character development.
I saw it exactly as it- a short spanned window into someones life, in a natural crisis.
You can easily draw the parallels. In "TWOTW" with Tom Cruise, the danger was as vivid and real as someone aiming a gun at you (its terrorizing), and so was the movie. This is a whole different view on a crisis with a 100% mortality rate. Its like AIDs. We all know it kills, we all know the danger, and we somehow strive to stay away from it, but all in all, unless were ****ed ourselves, we dont piss our pants every time we hear the word... AIDs or HIV.
MNS really tried to do something different, and he succeeded. Too bad the elitist always preach "Hollywood is unoriginal" and then when something different comes along, they b!tch about it not having entertainment value enough.
Meh.

MNS 3 best movies to date are-
Signs, Sixth Sense and Unbreakable
They have all a rating of 7+ points in IMDB, which means the movies are kickass. Sixth Sense is in TOP250 list, which is quite an honour.
Now that Ive spilled the beans, watch Sixth Sense first, as a matter of fact, go watch it NOW, any means necessary, any way possible. Dont spoil the movie for yourself, you need to experience the emotional journey of the characters. Its one of the better horror/thriller movies in years, and Bruce Willis gives a perfomance of his life there.
Willis also stars in Unbreakable, which is my favourite MNS movie. Signs is just one of the best alien invasion movies ever made.
Start with the three, then move on to the other 3, which have gotten mixed, or even bad reviews.

An excellent movie. Frankly, I think people who hate it, just lack the life experience and havent encountered emotions, people, situations resembling those in the movie. For example, I could immediately recognize my own old history teacher, and myself, in the main character.
What's that a teacher with a completly un-realistic relationship with his student, who chases after a girlfriend that has the biggest goo-goo eyes on the face of the planet (which is her only bargaining tool to convey any form of communication).
Wahlberg doesnt know how to act- get a grip, morons. There are different people with different stress tolerance. The danger presented in the movie, is so vague, so indirect, that the fear youll feel is so much less potent than the fear of being aimed at with a hunting rifle.
There are differences between stress tolerances and having very few facial expressions. I've seen him in other films and he was acceptable, evidently the direction he was given was either awful or just a rough day. The accent and how softly he spoke even under the circumstances made it feel more like a dumbed down children's tale than a so called thriler.
The few seconds where he's recalling his teaching motto for lack of a better word in terms of science was plain cheesy and cringe worthy.
The let's die together ******** was cheesy and easy way to finish get the film over and present the act of god line that had been so "casually" dropped into play in the lesson you see him teach.
Its an excellent thriller, as a matter of fact, the movie is just as menacing as the description sounds in IMDB-.
srsly? Thriller? Go watch some good thriller pieces, Spooks is the cream-crop not exactly a film but several series long. It was clearly obvious when people were going to die as there was strong wind, making it painfully obvious to the audience that it was the plants. Okay maybe he was trying to get some dramatic irony across, we knew and I suspect most people just because frustrated with their inability to see what was to clear.
Thrillers are dependant on attachment to the characters, in which there was none, I saw no reason to want them to live infact nearer the end it was the opposite. Good musical pieces is the easiest effect in thrillers to pull off and I don't really recall the tempo being raised to a point where I was tense.

What's that a teacher with a completly un-realistic relationship with his student, who chases after a girlfriend that has the biggest goo-goo eyes on the face of the planet (which is her only bargaining tool to convey any form of communication).
So what exactly was so unrealistic about his relationship with his student(s)? Have you actually been to school? Or have you only had a home tutor so far, who would whip your *** every time you did or said something "inapproproate"? And now youre moaning about Wahlbergs character going after another character with "big goo goo eyes"?
Thanks for proving my point- that one has to grow the **** up first, and see life, because the movie did show certain nuances from an adult perspective.
If you want fake emotions, go and watch Cruise jump up and down the sofa with Oprah.
There are differences between stress tolerances and having very few facial expressions. I've seen him in other films and he was acceptable, evidently the direction he was given was either awful or just a rough day. The accent and how softly he spoke even under the circumstances made it feel more like a dumbed down children's tale than a so called thriler.
Where do you live? Do you cry every time you see someone step on an ant? Is it socially acceptable to b!itch and moan every time, with horribly overdone facial expressions every time the weather changes? Have you actually seen movies which dont rely on characters overplaying the emotions, and instead rely on something different, to create that same sense of suspense and fear?
Because around where I live, men usually have two facial expressions. Oned where they watch football and another when they wake up in the morning, and you can easily mix the two up.
The reason why I drew a parallel with myself and my history teacher was plain and obvious- my history teacher had a similar relationship with his students, and off-school, he was very similar. Calm, collected. Ive seen him go angry once, and even then, he was calm and collected. In most cases, I am the same.
Youll see the same sh!t put onto the screen constantly by every top Hollywood actor, and NOW youre moaning about Wahlbergs, which happen to be quite realistic, given the complete lack of "clear and present danger"?!
The few seconds where he's recalling his teaching motto for lack of a better word in terms of science was plain cheesy and cringe worthy.
Are you kidding? I can count dozenzs of exactly the same moments where Ive had to shut up the crowd around me to have a moment to think to solve a solution, and in some occasions, Ive done it out loud. Theres nothing cheesy about it. Its a real moment. As a matter of fact, often fear, panic and the rush from adrenaline takes your mind completely over, and theres no choice but to vocalise those thoughts because you have to organize them SOMEHOW. Sh!t man, have you actually seen life?
The let's die together ******** was cheesy and easy way to finish get the film over and present the act of god line that had been so "casually" dropped into play in the lesson you see him teach.
Theres nothing about God there. The underlining theme was this- "there are forces at work we have no understanding about (yet)". Enter into the discussion about gravity in this very same subforum.
I do agree however- "lets die together" was a bad way to present the end of the cataclysm, because frankly, theres still a kid they had to protect. They couldnt have a radio, and they couldnt have any survivors picking them up. For all intents and purposes, they were screwed. Personally, I cant think of a way to get out of that rathole, but Im not really applying my artistic talent (coughs) into it anyway.
srsly?
WOW! Youre dismissing a thriller which tries to go around and impress the viewer from a completely different angle, using completely different methods, using a f!cking British drama series. Bravo! Bravo!
Again, thanks for proving how little you paid attention and how closed your mind was. Did you go into the movies to see a movie with an MNS famous plot twist? How about you go into the movies and expect the unexpected? Not an open twist, but a tale told differently, from a different perspective? How about you just go in and watch a god damn movie.
There was no dramatic irony. It was a window peak into a familys life during a few hours in their lives. If you choose to believe that somehow, Shyamalan wants to tell us to stop f!cking with the planet, then maybe you should believe that Cameron told us to stay the f!ck out of space!
It wasnt about a twist, never was, which is why the plants were made obvious since the first minutes of the movie, where the words "the toxin appears to be natural" popped out. Which was the start of the realization.
Thrillers are dependant on attachment to the characters, in which there was none, I saw no reason to want them to live infact nearer the end it was the opposite. Good musical pieces is the easiest effect in thrillers to pull off and I don't really recall the tempo being raised to a point where I was tense.
Bullsh!t. Please go ahead and cite me a correct way to explain the term "thriller", because this is what I found from the second link in the Google search, wikipedia.
Generally, thrillers focus on plot over fictional characters, and thus emphasize intense, physical action over the character's psyche. Psychological thrillers tend to reverse this formula to a certain degree, emphasizing the characters just as much, if not more so, than the plot.
Grown-up perspective? What's that exactly? Pretended their is more depth to a film that was at best, crudely acted and executed? Your starting to remind me of the long-black haired guy with wrist-bands that colours his hair a random shade every other week, wearing platform boots to look like an "individual"
You can imagine me actually wearing casual clothing, no accessories, and either teaching or guiding yough highschool students/graduates like you. "Grown ups" perspective was actually thrown in with a solid explanation. You ignored that completely and replaced it with your own scewed view and insults to boot. Thanks for proving my point exactly, to the note.
The idea of watching the movie as a grownup means that you need to watch it with an open mind, and that most situations Wahlbergs character was in, he handles like an adult. An educated, responsible adult. Its also very well depicted when he was discussing the possible routes of escape with a very insecure and stuttering soldier- "I think its a terrorist attack... so...[continuation]" / Wahlberg: "I have no reason to disagree with you, so [continuation]"
If youre not dealing with a demoralizing, clear and present danger, something which is going to kill you and you could imagine it (like having someone holding you at gunpoint- have you gone through that?), then there is going to be a natural, lower sense of danger, which will let us deal with the problem with a lot cooler head.
I wait to be beaten into submission of your opinion.
Its your call.
Leave the tits to me and take the second option.
But do take solace in the fact that theres more people agreeing with you, than with me.

P.S. Chris i didn't likes that movie Unbreakable! :( the story line was really..i don't know.. Weird?.. the acting was good.. but yeah i don't know how the hell i would decribe that.. I honestly thought halfway through it was going to turn into a marvel rip off and he was going to bust out in some new super hero threads.. The last 10 minutes was the best part of the film.

Well, its M. Night for you. Im susprised that you were waiting for a Marvel type of hero, when the underlining theme was continuously being reminded to the viewer- heroes are not the flashy guys in gymwear, they are mostly orginary people with certain extraordinary traits. Marvel and DC and the likes just make them colourful, interesting to read. Reality is always grittier.
Well, then theres Signs left for you. If you wont like that either, then perhaps you should steer clear from the last 3-
- Lady in the Water
- The Village
- The Happening

I saw Sex and The City Movie the other day, and I'm a big fan of the show. It taught me some new things about women, and Kim Cattrall is incredibly hot. The thing with TV to movie, is that it's a minefield. Your basically taken a 30 minute show and expanding it by 3, and SATC is good as episodes but the film was too drawn out to really like it.
I took Redfields advice and watched Mr. Brooks, and while his intelligence was sometimes confusing to the point you think where did that come from?, it was a pretty good movie and the ending was pretty awesome.
I'm intrigued by The Happening, because it seems hard to explain in a trailer. If a trailer sums everything the movie is about, then it's pointless. It's just a compact movie. The Happening trailer was basically, "WTF is happening? (no pun intended) and how do we survive" So you think, Oh i'm going to watch that to find out what happens and how they survive. It's enticing you in.
I've seen Transformers recently too, and that was pretty cool.

The great escape is an awesome movie, with Steve McQueen.
I watched the newest Indiana Jones movie last week and had, being a great fun and knowing the series since is was very young, I had high expectations and was surprised how good it was all in all.
Nice sidekicks to the old movies, the great old flair and best of all: they prevented doing the greatest mistakes I had expected. They aged Indy, new time, new setting, didn't try to put him that serious but keeping his honor, just perfectly balanced.

I don't have the energy or will to argue with you Chris, I have no doubt you'll interpret this as conceding "defeat" hardly it's just pointless arguing with you as I don't ever remember you changing your stubborn opinion. So what's the point arguing over the internet about a bad film?
Have you ever stepped back to think that possibly in some situations, yourself and not everyone else is wrong?

Not understanding what people are saying because your too busy shouting at them is not something to be proud of. Problem is most of the things you say on here apart from this I agree with what you say. How you deliver it is down-right rude, agressive and almost as if your compensating for being able to argue at another time in your life.
Why must you be so agressive at the hint of someone disagreeing with you. To be fair you just baiting me to respond so you can stand on a hill and blarb about how I wouldn't argue, frankly I've better things to do than stroke your e-peen. Go outside and speak how you do to people here and see where that gets you, most likely in a hospital or worse.
face it u cant win an argument againts Chris, :P (no insult intended)
Yeah problem is it's not out of valid points, it's out talking some much BS you can't see between the lies and truth. Seriously Chris your mostly on here to cause arguments, I've not once see you change your mind or even remotely understand what people have to say.
A) Grow the f!ck up first.
Yes sir.
B) Dont contradict yourself in your arguments.
By what? Responding to you? Or saying that I don't really want to argue.
C) Dont be a hypocrite.
""
D) If you didnt want to argue, why start in the first place?
There's a difference between talking about a film and having somebody protrude their opinions down your throat. I'm expressing my opinion and your doing the same except throwing it at people and expecting them to become another Redfield.
E) Who says its a bad film? You? IMDB shows a 50/50 bag of opinions and a 6.2 score. If its mixed, its mixed.
Most of the people I saw it with in the cinema which was packed were clearly unhappy with it, if it's mixed for a start it's clearly not that accessible to people (unlike yourself that apparently can see things that aren't there), if it's a truely good film a large amount of the people viewing it would be thrilled and enjoy the film.
Have you?
You don't see me getting banned, being a general ***-hat to anyone that disagrees with what you say and arguing at the first opportunity to be honest. I take on-board what people have to say, these forums are for discussion, which is two sided of course that is if your not talking to you.
I made two points- people are blaming MNS for not playing by the rules they expect him to play (while being hypocrites by moaning about Hollywoods lack of creativity)
I don't recall moaning at hollywood personally, so I'll assume that's a sweeping statement about the populace, theirs is nothing wrong with mixing things up, the storyline had potential to be interesting had it been explained, I guess he was going for the audience and characters just don't what the cause is, either way, I only jumped once in the old ladies house and even that made me laugh afterwards
and people thinking that overexaggeration in emotional expression is "realistic".
Meh, I think we've hit a rut, realism in films in seldom and theirs a line between realism and enjoyment.

Why must you be so agressive at the hint of someone disagreeing with you.
Go through the points A, B, C, D again for me, please. You came in agressive, and thus gave me a permission to be a little more relaxed in the way I used English language. Now youre expressing your dislike about me being agressive. Stunning. Do me a favour- A, B, C, D; they are awaiting for you.
I wouldn't argue, frankly I've better things to do than stroke your e-peen.
Yet, youre still doing it.
Yeah problem is it's not out of valid points, it's out talking some much BS you can't see between the lies and truth. Seriously Chris your mostly on here to cause arguments, I've not once see you change your mind or even remotely understand what people have to say.
Grownups who tend to bring valid and interesting thoughts to "the table" tend to agree with me quite often, ad vice versa. Just go ahead and find WarGimp, if you can, or PlaneWhore, RocketChild and maybe even Vreki. Hell, I rarely disagree with Dairuka-san, and in cases we do, its in the ways we present our thoughts. So dont make up your arguments. Lies are never pretty. I dont need to change my mind just because someone "says so". In case Im in perfect agreement with a topic, I simply dont post there. In case Im in a disagreement, I do.
Yes sir.
Good lad.
By what? Responding to you? Or saying that I don't really want to argue.
You say you dont really want to argue, yet you do. You say Im being agressive, yet look at your own post which started this argument. Youre quite simply taking a higher moral ground by claiming that "you think arguing is a waste of time and is simply petty" while youre practicing this form of entertainment yourself. And you cant stop it either. So seriously, whos stroking whos e-peen now? The line is getting dimmer and dimmer.
There's a difference between talking about a film and having somebody protrude their opinions down your throat. I'm expressing my opinion and your doing the same except throwing it at people and expecting them to become another Redfield.
C and D. You stated your opinions as facts and threw yourself at me and now youre b!tching and moaning about me slapping you around. One can always have a civil discussion. Yes. Are you having one? No. So why the hypocritical drama? Because you like it.
Most people in the cinema you were in? That greatly discredits IMDB as the biggest source of movie viewers opinions, doesnt it? Get down from your high horse and actually concentrate on the two points I tried to make. People expecting "Sixth Sense" plot twists all over again, and thinking that emotional breakdown is realistic. A lot of people are labelling this movie as a "bad" one for different reasons and if youve seen the furora surrounding HMS, youd see that it has become quite popular to hate him. Theres a lot of hate which is unjustified. This movie is not great, superb in general, but its not bad either.
You don't see me getting banned, being a general ***-hat to anyone that disagrees with what you say and arguing at the first opportunity to be honest. I take on-board what people have to say, these forums are for discussion, which is two sided of course that is if your not talking to you.
Take comfort in the fact that Im generally an as5hat to people who deserve it ;). In this particular thread, Im having a discussion with 2 separate people except you, and I managed to end a discussion with SNIPER positively, despite me liking a movie he hated. On the same note, I couldnt do it with you. Why is that? Personal hate? Vendetta? Hardly so. You came in flames blazing, and you got a fire extinguisher right in your face. Stop being a hypocrite. I gave you tits, so you should be GTFO by now.
Ahem... Hell, you didnt even know what the working formula of a "thriller" was, so Ill just leave this.
Meh, I think we've hit a rut, realism in films in seldom and theirs a line between realism and enjoyment.
Theres also a difference between Hollywood summer blockbuster action flicks and movies which cater to different tastes. If you went in there looking for Bad Boys 3, dont complain to me. But dont LOOK for disappointments to explain yourself not being blown away.
Borat amused me. Not a particularly good film but the concept, ideas, whatever in it are hilarious :awes
And yes apart from Toy Story 2, The Incredibles is one of the best animated films out there. ;)

I've heard mixed opinions from people i know and decided to see for myself. and its just so damn funny. the whole retarded image is great, and there were a fair few laugh out loud bits throughout the film. the only thing i found fault with was how it abruptly ended. like there was little to no clarification of events, but i wouldn't say it taints its image though.
If you haven't seen it yourselves, i suggest you take some time to watch it, chances are you'll get some enjoyment from it atleast.

oh thats a shame, i love that sort of film where it's so stupid you can't help but laugh.
you didn't find any of it funny, or you didnt like the film in general?
Just watched Deja Vu and American Pie: Beta House.
I've had Deja Vu on my sky planner for about two months now, so i finally decided to sit down and watch it. and i can't believe i left it so long. thought it was a great film, and it had a really good story. some of it was easy to work out for yourself but it still had that edge to it. And of course, Denzel Washington was excellent as always.
Before i watched it i knew it wasn't even gonna touch the original three, but after watching the naked mile and enjoying that, i saw no reason for me not to watch this one. and i was suprised. it made me laugh alot, which today i needed badly, and all in all wasn't that bad a film compared to what alot of people had said about it.
Sniper, i doubt you'll find another film like Black Hawk Down. it's in a league of it's own. obviously there are various military sided films, but the all do it in their own way.
if you haven't already i suggest you watch Deja Vu. doesn't fit the same genre as you requested, but a good film nonetheless.

throughout the film, they're constantly jibing and plotting against each other, but its done in a humorous way rather than a spiteful way, hence why it was funny. i had my doubts before going as it was categorised as a romantic comedy, but it werent the soppy **** you'd normally get.

You have to realize unlike than most Historical films that rely there visuals on what we today would call Plausible, 300 ventured more into the beliefs of those times when they believed in such gods and mystical creatures.. I think it made the film more natural and true.
