View Full Version : Our biggest concerns.

I've done a lot of research into reactions after the release of the EncyClanPedia, mostly by reading the hundreds (Yes hundreds) of replies from onlookers on clan websites, gaming forums, and other assorted responses from friends.

I'm going to list the largest concerns, and possible solutions in order of severity.

#1 - People fear about the safety of their Clan-wiki page.

Possible Solutions:

- Webs961 could put forth a very experimental user-group .php to the MediaWiki, allowing Administrators to give special user-access over certain web-pages. This would greatly encourage more people to create web-pages. (We tried this already. Not easy to do.)

- Dairuka could overseer a very stringent "trusted status" program, where he would actively protect clan wikis, and thusly only give clan-leaders who request access to that page, the "Trusted" status. (I would only allow this for respectable TGN members, since they can be held accountable.)

There are very big dangers with using this idea. The "trusted" people will be given access to other protected pages and not just their own, so even one maliced individual could do some pretty big damage if he was dedicated and deranged enough.

- Dairuka himself could protect all clan-wikis, and rather than allow access for any passerby to edit the page (AFTER IT'S BEEN CREATED), changes to the page itself coul instead be requested on the Discussion part of the clan-wiki. Then any Staff/Administrator can follow through with these changes if they appear appropriate. (This is the one I favor the most for the short term, while we come up with something better..)

#2 - People hate the bland design of the basic MediaWiki template.

- We could put off our focus on content, and category building, and instead focus on beautifying the page.

- With the help of Total GFX, we could easily give the site a very good face lift.

#3 - There isn't enough content in the EncyClanPedia.

- We've already encouraged as many people as possible to take part in contributing. The last thing I want to do is force it down their throats. As I've stated before, I plan on making at least one page of full-length content every day, no matter how busy I am with other priorities. At the very least, at least this can guarantee that in a month's time there will be fair amount of content for readers to return to.

Note that this content is guaranteed to include the following:

- Games Pages.
- Information on Games.
- Gaming Strategies.
- Information on Mods (For all sorts of games, not just TGN ones.), and redirects to that mods website. (Or a redirected download link if they lack a website.)
- Information on Patches and redirected download links that won't require you to wait, or sign up with a service to use.

We won't give direct download links, but we will put you on the right path.

There are also many other ideas that we're thinking of adding, but haven't had the time, or the access/information to follow through with. In time, and with the help of the right people, we definitely will:

- Information on Total Gaming Files downloads, and download links. (We'll need permission.)
- Full information on future Professional Gaming Matches. (Not enough time.)

----

Yes, the ECP will be sparsely filled for the moment. Especially as the busy holiday season continues to eat away at people's time. Fear not though. So long as the Total Gaming Network is willing to host the ECP, the ECP will always have people willing to improve it.

The reason I made my intentions to better the ECP clear, is because I don't want people to get discouraged. Major changes are under way, and everyday the ECP is being made better so it can run much smoother.

As for the clan-wiki protection thing: I can take a look at those security extensions again. However, I am not sure if they will function as intended with the network integration.

As for the site redesign, that's a very doable thing, but we will need some graphics wizards onboard.

What about content?

We definitely need to find a way to attract more people willing to contribute.
