Atleast I am now playing a game with far less bugs and a supportive development team, that actually fixes their product constantly.

Though I enjoy 2142, its lack of mods and a clear lack of development support makes it futile to play in a bugged, and forever bugged environment.

TF2, COD4, Crysis all have taken the lead.

I still try to play once or twice a week, but a new love has stolen my time :nod: UT3 for me :cool: I have COD4 and TF2 but the teamplay never stacked up to good ole 2142. TF2 has better teamplay than COD4 for sure, but i just don't play it that much. UT3 is filling the teamplay need nicely with Warfare mode.

I've also quit 2142 for quite some time, just wasn't fun when they put so much effort into making ranks & tags & such, while leaving the actual gameplay out.

I know DICE did what they could, but even battlefield can't escape the reverse-midas touch of EA.

The reason ET fails so bad is that it's even worse then bf2 when it comes to cheap tricks like dolphin diving & b-hopping.

And the real fail is that they intentionally designed it that way. If you try to play it semi-realistically, using cover and such, prepare to get owned every time by bunnyhopping, C4 throwing jerks.

I have also quite playing, even the most hardcore 2142 players in my clan have stopped.

We are currently in the FFoW beta and COD4.

TF2 is awesome too though, just not awesome enough for clan-play.

I quit playing after ET:QW's was released, then i quit that for TF2 and now play TF2 and CoD4 alot of the time, crysis is for chrimbo so i will see what happens after that, but tbh, CoD4 is going to last me a LONG time.

i just got CoD4. this is the first new game i got in a long long time and man it really feels good to play a game without bunch of bugs and poor performance for a change. this game looks amazing and runs much better than BF2142 on my old AGP rig. i tried to get some playing time for BF2142, but the first game i tried to play froze my PC within minutes of joining a HW tampa server. needless to say i won't be coming back for as much as before.

omg COD4 overated? I mean Bf2142 may be bugged to hell but when you get a game going its the best game ever!!.

Why did I get a refund for COD4? I played 5 hours and the following is what I encountered:

- squad play is minimal. No players plays together as a team. And if you try theres too much going on to even try keep a squad together. When you die you spawn away from your squad.

- Spawn points are stupid in team deathmatch or whatever. The game spawns you in places where theres most enemy players are. Spawn and more likley b4 you gain control of your player you get killed.

- The background music (which I couldn't switch off) which plays in game in multiplayer is bloody irritating. And from what I noticed you can only hear you team talk. A big no no compared to BF2142. At least in bf2142 you can hear whos around the corner be it russian or english. Many times I heard the enemy in bf2142 and knew which way to flank the guy to kill him. COD4 has not got this in the gameplay.

- nadefest were annoying in bf2142 and we have them here in COD4 but even more annoying. At least bf2142 you can find an alternative route and solve the problem most of the times but in COD4 you just get killed over and over again with the nades no matter where you go.

- maps are too small. 50 players and cram them in a tiny map and you get one big "death" match no matter what mode of multiplayer you are playing!. Again we had 64 players in "huge" levels that made the game more epic in bf2142. Every time you played you had a story to tell, be it knifing or the sniper kill you got there was always one story you could remember from playing a round. COD4? None whatsoever.

- The time it takes from running to shooting. This is the worst part of cod4, when you running and scope an enemy thats camping that you've ran past you have to press a button to stop running, point at enemy and shoot, which by that time you are dead.

These were the main parts of cod4 that made me ask for my refund. However the game looks amazing and the single player is probably quite good so Ive heard but i bought this to substitute bf2142 because too many people were leaving but I've still not found it yet. So until I've found a new game thats better than bf2142 i'll continue to knife the noobs that play this game currently. Because thats all thats left....noobs!!!!!!!!!!!

well to be honest i hated all the other COD games, but i like COD4. and you have to remember that COD is not a squad based game and the only way to have proper communication with your teammates is to have a mic or join a clan. and not sure about your expirence, but when i play TDM i always spawn close to another teammate. i'll give you that 2142 is a much more teamwork type game and i still love the game. i will probaly return to it but for now i'm into COD4. it's definetly not a game for everyone, it's kinda like CS on steroids (and i hate CS). i'm sorry your expirence wasn't a good one with COD4. but if you play free for all, that's alot of fun, demo mode is cool too. but granted it takes alot of getting used to after playing any of the BF games. and i agree on the nade spamming lol

oh and another suggestion, play maps with 7 to 12 players, much more fun

Wrong, the game spawns you where your team happens to be in control of. Sometimes this may overlap, or if the game is stagnant, you will spawn next to your enemy.

Agreed - I played a round yesterday with an AWESOME squad. Managed to cap all back flags on camp gib within a few mins, they still had a walker on half health, so got my entire squad on a roof and PK rocketed it to death. Watching 5 people launch several simultaneous volleys of rockets and nail a walker was AWESOME. Gutted battlerecorder wasn't running :(

Really? Seems all the 64-man servers I play on are STILL full 90% of the time and I still see the same names every time I play. In addition, there are routinely 150-200 servers up at all hours of the night and day and probably 50% of those are full or nearly full.

Soo.....if you have really left 2142....just leave. Enjoy the new games you are playing. But don't think for a minute that your presence is somehow missed or the game is just not the same without your sunny disposition being around. Servers somehow still find a way to fill up.....new players are still joining the game.....those who play it are still having fun. The world has somehow found a way to move on without you....I know, I know.....must be surprise to ya!:shakehead

For instance, I just did a little research....there are (at the time of this posting) 6835 players currently playing BF2142 on-line. On the top 10 servers as listed by 2142-stats.com, of the available 604 slots.....499 are filled with actual players right now. In addition, of the top 10 players, all 10 have played within the past 4 days, 5 of them have played at least 3 of the last 4 days and 7 of the top 10 have played today.

Seems there are plenty of people still playing 2142.....

I decided to stop playing in the New Year.

This is the first online FPS I ever played and have to say I certainly got my moneys worth. I have about 32 days of straight play racked up :shock:
I decided to have a last day of play yesterday but got a punkbuster disconnect, then a IDS deploy freeze and finally a round crash so decided to uninstall there and then.

Despite it's foibles 2142 is a fantastic game and I haven't played anything that is as good - yet. I look forward to Battlefield 2142 v2 or Battlefield 3. Till then I will be working on my cardio fitness instead lol. Lots of tennis, bball and snowboarding. Can't wait for the end of winter!

I had set a goal of getting top 100 in the world with the clark and clark rds - last time I checked I was 101 & 104 respectively so I guess it wasn't meant to be :laugh:

I still don't remember seeing any of the names on the forum ingame but I will look out for you in the next generation FPS :salute:

It's a freakin' game. No one cares who plays and who doesn't. If you do you need a life. There are still thousands and thousands of players and there are still people buying the game and starting to play. The only thing that people care about is if there are servers playing and people filling the servers. If so....great. If not....it's time to move on to a new game or find a hobby that actually means something.

I'm OK with the sentiments of the opening post. I'm OK with someone saying "thanks for the great times guys, I'm off to a new game." However, it's the "I've logged 2143 hours on this game....and now it sucks....I'm on to ______ game and it's so much better for a 1000 reasons" or the "I left 8 months ago, I can't believe you losers are still playing this game" and having to COME BACK to a 2142 forum to do it.

I won't say goodbye when I "leave" because I don't really care who will "miss" me or who "won't" because, see, common sense tells me its just a game and the vast majority of those playing understand this, have lives, and will still play with or without me. :shakehead

(this was my reply to another thread where someone was frustrated with all these old bugs but then said he still loves BF2142 and honestly that's how many of us feel too; anyways i thought my reply was also appropriate for this thread ;))

it's amazing how much leeway battlefield gets with buggy programming and lousy support because frankly it is the only player in this unique fps genre. if this was the type of game where there was some competition (sorry QW:ET doesn't count :)), perhaps DICE would try harder to make a better game, but it seems like they have all but left the battlefield gamers out in the cold with 2142. it's pretty much an insult to the people who bought this game how they handled everything from bugs that remain from the game's release, stupid simple thing like picking of supreme commanders, and their world famous method of introducing new bugs while not really fixing existing bugs every single freakin' patch.

a lot of people have shown loyalty by staying around this long, but there comes a point where you have to put away your need for the battlefield fix and just move on to a game that doesn't have so many issues. sure COD4 is no battlefield, but i've come to a point where i decided to go with a good game that is not buggy and well supported over a great game that is buggy and with terrible support.

However, 2142 is nearly 15 months old....CoD4 isn't even 2 months old. So you'd expect more CoD4 servers....but 10,000??? That's incredible.

hey thanks for seeing my point. i am not leaving battlefield for good, i just have an alternative now so it will take a backseat to it but i still play a little bit here and there (i'm still working on the armor medal and still need about 1500 more kills). :D

hey i looked up FFOW and it does look pretty sweet. tell me more about the game, is it supposed to be very similar to battlefield? when is it due out and how can one participate in the beta? also tell us how the beta is if you don't mind.

I DLed the frontlines beta yesterday and its... OK. I guess. I can't really give a great description of it cause I only played 3 rounds, but even though I had never touched the game before those three rounds I still ended up in first place at the end of each of those three rounds.

As for gameplay... No Knife, which disappointed me (its really easy to get behind someone) and the guns are all... weird. A Fully Zoomed in Sniper rifle (with no sway) misses a perfectly lined up shot on a stationary target 3/5 times. The Drones are fun (I wish my Accipitator was remote controlled :(), and the frontlines game mode is good in concept. The idea is that because of how the map is lined up it forces the team to work together, to push toward the front line instead of having everyone sneak to the back.

However, that removes one of my favorite aspects of any FPS game; stealth. Its good common sense that dictates that you should have someone guarding your main base, but in this game all the fighting happens on the "Front Lines". Now because of this "Front Line" all the fighting happens in cramped chokepoints. Yes, imagine the Central Camp to Ruins nadespam, just for an entire round with no hope of taking the catwalk and flanking the enemy from EU base. No hope of getting an infiltrator past to cap the toll station as a distraction... Just constant madness in the same old chokepoint, over and over. And Over. For all eternity.

Thats all I got to say about it for now.

PPS: Almost forgot to discuss: Graphics. I played it all maxed out, still getting around 50 FPS. It looks... I dunno. Cartoony a bit. I guess I have just been a bit spoiled by Crysis :p

thanks. i'm downloading the beta but don't know if i meet the minimum reqs. for the video card. i have an radeon x800 GTO, i don't know if that's below the gforce 6 minimum reqs. for the game.

i noticed it's the makers of desert combat, so that sounds pretty promising at least.

Played it again (for another three rounds :p) on a less crowded map. My opinion on it has changed quite a bit actually... The map I played reminded me of Highway Tampa, just alot smaller. Tank Madness, but vehicles are pretty weak in this game (at least compared to 2142 they are). I love playing as EMP Tech, cause then when I snipe (or go spec. ops) they can't get me on radar. The ability to stop them annoying little drones is helpful too! I love using the EMP Launcher on a vehicle, and then lacing it with C-4. When the pilot comes to, he just drives on like nothing happens, then BOOM! Tons of fun :p Still a serious lack of teamwork (my team lost twice in a row... It really seemed like I was the only one who was actually on the "FrontLine"), and I managed to come in third place each of the rounds I played, behind the Chopper Whores. Which brings us to the Chopper Whores. Remember the anal rapage that jets used to bring about in BF2? Well, its back. I managed to hit one with an EMP rocket once, it was kinda funny watching him helplessly fall to the ground :p
